Unceremoniously plopped at the corner of Bundy and Wilshire in West L.A., Literati Cafe (attached at the hip to its swanky big brother Literati 2) will have you coming back again and again for its fresh food and cozy vibe.
Literati is a cafe that serves up a wide variety of healthy sandwiches, salads, homemade soups, and (not so healthy) desserts. They also have a handful of entrees - the shrimp linguine and veggie lasagna are both delicious. They also serve breakfast all day and are open until 11, two things that always earns bonus points with me.
I can’t tell you how many times Literati has hit the spot for me. They have such a wide variety of options - from comfort food like lasagna to health-nut food like a roasted vegetable salad - that you will leave feeling satisfied, no matter what you crave. They also have great coffee and a huge selection of looseleaf teas. Every day they serve three different kinds of ice tea.
The best thing about Literati is the ambiance. It’s the kind of place that you want to linger, where you might order one more drink to nurse so that you can stay just a little longer. There is a woodburning fireplace that gives off a cozy yellow glow. The books plastered (literally) into the walls and the occasional studying college student give off a feeling of relaxed academia. There’s always at least one person there writing on a laptop, sipping a latte or a cup of tea.
One insider’s tip - if you order for pickup, count on it being wrong. I live very close and I have ordered there countless times. Every single time, something about the order assembly was wrong. So check it when you pick it up. The food is so good, though, it’s easy to forgive that inefficiency. So like a sucker, I keep going back. Try it. You’ll understand why.
