We’re getting into the second half of April, and that makes me think of predominantly one thing - baby animals. Fuzzy bunnies, newborn horses, baby birds, chicks, fat kittens, clumsy puppies. Although spring isn’t quite as noticeable in LA as it might be in other parts of the country, you can still feel it - that extra warm sunshine or surprisingly fresh breeze.
And although you might not see a mother duck and her ducklings cross the pavement in front of you while you’re barreling down the 10, it’s not that hard to find animals in LA. The animal shelters are overflowing with them. There are so many cats, dogs, birds, bunnies, and other animals that need loving homes. If you’ve ever considered adopting a pet (or you just want to go cuddle a puppy or kitten), you might find the following list of adoption organizations very helpful:
- Life4Paws - adoptions at various PetSmarts (check website)
- A Dog’s Life Rescue - adoption every 2nd, 3rd, 4th Saturday of every month at Centinela Feed and Pet Supplies (Pico/Sepulveda)
- Kitten Rescue – saves cats from shelter euthanasia. Weekly events across LA (check website)
- Much Love Animal Rescue – upcoming fundraiser at Playboy Mansion with the Girls Next Door (so you know they must be legit)
- Best Friends Animal Society LA – holds a Super Adoption Event 3 times a year that brings together 70 local adoption groups, vendors, speakers, celebrity presenters, etc.
- Save-A-Life – LA’s largest non profit, no-kill all volunteer dog and cat rescue/adoption organization (events at Petco - check website)
- Pet Finder – nationwide extensive database of pets in need of a loving home
- LA Animal Services – here you can look up all of LA’s animal shelter locations and see a list of pets at each one
