  • Father convicted for beating and assaulting one month old son -  Andrew David Fusco, 23, an Orange County father has been convicted of sexually and physically assaulting his 1 month-old son, who suffered broken bones, penetration injuries and more than 30 bite marks. Fusco was found guilty of four felony counts of child abuse, two felony counts of sexual penetration by foreign object by force and two felony counts of aggravated assault of a child. He faces 30 years to life in prison, plus an additional 18 years. The infant’s 22-year-old mother, Megan Michelle Martinez, pleaded guilty earlier to four felony child abuse counts and she is serving a six-year prison sentence. The infant recovered and has been adopted.
  • Naked man tries to kidnap woman in Northridge - Police are looking for a man who ran naked on a street in Northridge while attempting to kidnap a woman. The woman was walking by herself around midnight on Parthenia Street near Wilbur Avenue when a car started following her. The male driver then exited the vehicle and began chasing the victim. “When he tried to grab her, she noticed he was naked,” she said. “She managed to escape.” The victim then ran to a nearby apartment complex and called for help. The woman was visibly upset but uninjured. The woman did not know the man that chased her.
  • O.C. inmate died from blows to the head - An inmate who died April 1 after a jailhouse struggle with Orange County sheriff’s deputies was killed by traumatic blows to his head. Sheriff’s officials had previously said that deputies used a stun gun on Jason Jesus Gomez, 35, at the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana. Gomez’s family hired a pathologist to conduct an autopsy that determined he died from blunt force trauma.  “Let me tell you what they did to him: They punched his lights out,” Bernard, who is representing Gomez’s father, told The Times. “They beat him to death.”

  • Woman airlifted from cliff in Hollywood Hills - A 24-year-old woman with head injuries was airlifted off a cliff in the Hollywood Hills today as firefighters worked to rescue a man apparently stuck on the same precipice. The woman was one of two people rescued from Bronson Canyon, known as the location of the Batcave from the 1960s television series “Batman.” The woman was in serious condition and airlifted to an area hospital and details on the second person were not immediately available.
  • Famous grizzly bear kills it’s trainer - Stephen Miller, an experienced trainer, was killed by the 5-year-old bear during the making of a promotional video. The 700-pound, 71/2-foot-tall grizzly bear, which appeared most recently in “Semi-Pro,” bite the trainer on the neck and he was not able to be revived by the paramedics. “They were filming it and the bear started licking his (Stephen Miller’s) face and then all of a sudden it just bit him,” Wilson said. “He was just really upset and didn’t know why it happened.” Pepper spray was used to subdue and contain the bear. It is unclear whether or not the bear will be euthanized at this point.
  • Woman injured in a fire started by incense and candles - Firefighters were sent to 1422 19th St. in Santa Monica at 2:05 a.m. to a fire burning through the roof of the three-story townhouse. The woman living in the fire-damaged condominium was awakened by a smoke alarm, and escaped with minor injuries and treated at the scene. A second unit next to that one sustained some smoke damage. “Fire investigators reported the fire was caused by candles and incense,” Ziegert said.
