The Skinny On Top Model: Hell to the No.

This week, the girls got crazy in Rome.  Or, maybe they went crazy?  I feel crazy having watched it, that’s for sure.

Right of the bat, the producers of ANTM were nice enough to give the girls a tour of Rome.  That way, the eliminated girl could at least say she saw something other than the airport.  Very generous of them, especially considering what the girls were in store for.  I want to know when was the last time Tyra Banks had to do a commercial in another language?  And, no Victoria’s Secret Angel-speak doesn’t count.  While I’m ragging on Tyra, what’s with the Tyra-as-Mona Lisa ‘Tyra Mail’?  She should be embarrassed.  Really.

For the first challenge, our girls were taken on a tour of Italian fashion.  They were shown pretty Roman chics and told to take note.  They arrived at the challenge and met Gai Mattiolo, a fashion designer.  The challenge was to pick an outfit and embody Italian fashion the best, which was a joke because they were dressed by a style team.  The designer did not seem impressed with anyone except Anya and Katarzyna.  He said Dominique was “not fresh”, which is Italian for “old.”  He was excited that Anya was ’so blond and so skinny and so young’ so she won the challenge and received a Gai Mattiolo dress for the red carpet.

Finally, the girls shoot a Cover Girl Commercial for Queen Collection lipstick.  It was pretty freaking hilarious, in a delightfully painful way.  I really felt for the girls because when I try to speak Italian, I sound like Count Chocula.  The director liked Katarzyna and Fatima the best.  The title of worst was a toss up between Dominique, who looked like a crazy drag queen on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and Lauren who seemed like a zebra zombie in heels.  A mean zebra zombie.  Whitney was actually pretty scary too because she was so over the top but at least she tried.

At elimination, I’m wondering, what is with all the animal print?  Tyra’s wearing leapard print and the commercials were full of it.  Does animal skin just scream Roman fashion?  Ick.  And, what was Dominique wearing?  Some big ole’ pink sweater and a ponytail.  All the other girls looked cute and there was Dominique looking like she was in for the night, in front of the t.v. waiting for the finale of Top Chef to start, clutching a Smores Poptart in one hand and a Snapple in the other.

So, the judges watch the commercials and deliberate on who sucked the worst.  Mr. Jay thought Fatima was the best.  The director agreed.  Paulina loved Katarzyna but Tyra thought she was boring.  I think it was because Katarzyna corrected Tyra on the pronunciation of her name.  Do not correct Ms. Banks, girl.  Everyone but Tyra hated Whitney because she was fake.  I think Tyra dug her because Tyra herself is fake.  But, maybe that’s just me.  (Nahhhh.)  Anya’s best take had Tyra calling it “a piece of dookie” and the director laughing at her.  Dominique’s commercial scared Paulina and convinced Miss Jay she’s a brother.  But, Lauren.  Lauren was definitely the one they hated most.  Miss Jay held up a sign that said, “Hell to the No.”  Yup.  Well said, Miss Jay.  I heart you.
Fatima was called first, then Katarzyna, then Anya.  Next, Tyra called Dominique and I screamed “Why?” at the t.v.  I do not get it.  She’s in the top 5.  The world is wack.  Whitney and Lauren were in the bottom two but in the end it was Lauren who was kicked off.  She lurched away, never to wear cute shoes again.

Stay tune next week to see Tyra shoot the top 5.  (With a camera, people.  Gah.)

* is on Wednesday nights at 8pm on the CW.
