On April 25, 26, and 27, 2008, in conjunction with the exhibition Allan Kaprow Art As Life (presented at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA), LACMA is coordinating the reinvention of Allan Kaprow’s Fluids. First realized for his 1967 exhibition at the Pasadena Art Museum, Fluids is being built by teams of volunteers at sites across Los Angeles.

I got to the Geffen Contemporary just before 4pm today, when the structure was about four blocks high. Volunteers and spectators-cum-workers stood in line in back of the Union Ice truck, ice gloves on, ready to grab a block and pile it on. Other people were busy scoring the ice that had been laid, making crumbly mortar in anticipation for the next row.
Here is a short video, and some photos. The “Happening” will continue tomorrow and Sunday, times are listed after the imagery.
