No one expected fire season to begin with our first semi-heatwave, but a second fire has broken out in just two days and is causing serious damage. The fire broke out at 2:15pm this afternoon in the 6200 block of Gramercy Place and over 100 firefighter responded. Earlier it was reported that a power line fell onto one of the nearby fire trucks, trapping a man inside, but no injuries have been confirmed.
A fire has engulfed a one-story commercial facility in a South Los Angeles industrial complex, sending plumes of gray and black smoke hundreds of feet in the air, authorities said.
Stacks of pallets are burning along with some single-story structures on the site, adjacent power poles and at least one vehicle, Davies said.
Fire officials said it was unclear what the facility manufactures, or how the fire started.
Firefighters fought the flames inside the structure for about 10 minutes until they pulled out to fight it defensively, instead focusing on preventing the flames from spreading to other buildings.
“The situation does appear hazardous,” Davies said. “The area has been evacuated.” [LA.Times]

Yikes! At least it wasn’t several hundred acres and homes. Hopefully those people in those areas are prepared for this year’s possible fires because with the lack of rain this season it doesn’t bode well.
