Poketo - Art You Can Actually Use

If you are interested in the work of local artists - actually, even if you aren’t - you should check out Poketo, a network of over 100 international artists selling their wares on one site. They started in 2003 with a series of wallets designed by emerging artists. The wallets were produced in very limited quantities and used as promo pieces for art shows that Poketo produced. The idea was that the wallets would be pieces of art you could walk away with, to have something concrete representing your experience at the show.

poketo-logo.jpgThe response was overwhelming, and so since then they have added t-shirts, bags, stationery, homewares, prints, jewelry, and accessories to their site. Everything is quirky, fun and unique, and all of the pieces are designed by up and comingdiamond_girl.gif artists. The “art you can walk away with” philosophy guides the business, and so everything is unpretentious and easy to incorporate into your everyday life.

Poketo recently acquired a studio space in downtown LA, and on May 10 they will be having a massive live sale event in the space. Check back to their website for location and hours of the sale, or to have a little artistic shopping binge.

For the first-time ever, the Poketo Warehouse will open its doors for a massive spring cleaning sale to make room for their new season’s goodies. Wallets, t-shirts, plates, stationery, and even some one-off and archived items will be on sale from $5-10 on 5/10 (May 10) at 510 S. Hewitt Street. From 10 am - 5 pm, go there for cupcakes, tunes and discounted goodies.
