Looks like all the Dodgers needed was a good tongue lashing from me. They straightened up and started to fly right, well at least this week. Hopefully they can keep it up for the rest of the season or at least until the All-Star break.
The Dodgers ended the week off on the right foot, sweeping the series against the Rockies. The Rockies had been struggling going into the series and the Dodgers took advantage of it. They beat them 8-7, 11-3 and 3-2. The first game went a lucky 13 innings with the Dodgers winning it on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Russell Martin. The second game in the series was an easy win for the Dodgers. Brad Penny turned in one of his best pitching performances (7 innings/3 earned runs). He was backed up by 10 runs in the first inning, with four of those runs coming on Matt Kemp’s first career grand slam. The third game in the series needed extra inning , James Loney drove in Rafael Furcal with the winning run in the 10th inning.
Next the Dodgers headed to Florida to face the NL East first place Marlins. On paper it seemed like it would be a tough match up for the Dodgers, but it wasn’t. They won the first game 7-6, in dramatic fashion. Jeff Kent drove in the the winning run in the 9th inning and Saito came in and shut the door for his 3rd save of the season. The second game was a easy 13-1 victory for the Dodgers. They were paced by Furcal and Martin (5 hits each) and 5 runs in the 8th inning. Chad Billingsley finally got his first win of the season tossing 7 innings of three hit ball to shut down the Marlins offense. The Dodgers were going for the sweep on Thursday and they got it with a 5-3 win. Kuroda had a quality game (7 inning/3 ER/5 hits), but got a no decision. The winning run came in the 9th inning off a Matt Kemp RBI single and Saito made sure it stayed that way pitching a 1-2-3 inning for his 4th save of the season.
The Dodgers are now headed to Colorado for a three game set then come back to L.A. for 2 three game series against the Mets and the Astros.
Keep it going Dodgers you’re looking good. Except for Andrew Jones he needs to step up his game (Maybe this will make him step it up).
