Hello old friends. I just got back from watching Iron Man. If you are reading this I am assuming you have an idea of what Iron Man is. So I’m not going to waste my time writing out the whole synopsis. Go watch the trailer here. Then move on if you’d like. You already know if you’re going to see it or not. I’m just going to give you my opinion.

When I first saw the trailer months ago… I had a fanboy erection. I watched it over and over. Seriously. On my iPod while going to bed at night. On my computer over and over in glorious HD. It got to the point where my girlfriend prohibited me from watching the trailer. Now the big problem with them cutting such an awesome trailer is this: It can sometimes be better than the movie. I started to get cold feet about this movie as I thought about it more. Maybe it won’t be that good. Check out this funny Onion piece about the trailer.

I tried to see the movie Thursday night at a midnight screening. Yes, I like to go to midnight screenings with geeky fanboys cheering and screaming at the scream. It’s awesome. Anyway, it seemed like other people wanted to do the same and it was sold out. So I saw it today. Did it live up to the trailer?

You bet.

The movie is a solid superhero flick. I hold it up with the better superhero movies like Spider-Man (not 3) and Batman Begins. Is it better? It’s different. I’ve been having an argument with my friend for quite a while now about which will be better this summer: Iron Man or The Dark Knight. He is so sure Iron Man is going to be the better of the two films. I have kept saying that The Dark Knight is going to be the superior film. After seeing Iron Man, my view has changed. No, I am not admitting defeat; but I am looking at the situation differently. They are two COMPLETELY different movies. Iron Man is fun and a good time while The Dark Knight is going to be a much darker film.

What made this movie: Robert “Spanking” Downey Jr. He is Tony Stark. If I were a woman or a gay man, I would like to make love to that guy. No one could have played the role better. Well, it helped that he has his own battles with addiction (Tony Stark is an alcoholic). I laughed a good amount of times. As director, Jon Favreau did a good job putting this piece together. He took time with getting to know the character and developing them so that we can actually care about them. He understands that it’s not all about action and blowing shit up *COUGH Michael Bay COUGH*, it’s about making the audiences care about the characters. Shit, I got emotional when *SPOILER ALERT* (Highlight the following text to view) “Stark was escaping from the cave and a character we didn’t see too much of dies.” Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, and Gwyneth Paltrow all did equally well. I really can’t wait for the next one. Oh, make sure you stay until after the credits. If you know even a tad about the comic book world, you’ll get a kick out of it.

All in all, this is a good superhero action flick. It’s fun, funny, and a blast to watch. Don’t go if you’re looking for some thought-provoking film. it’s not there. Go for a good time. If you want me to, I can come back after The Dark Knight in a couple months and tell you who won the argument. Last summer I lost. He bet on Transformers and I said Spider-Man 3. Yes, I think Spider-Man 3 was that bad. In the end, I think we both won this summer. Iron Man was cool and I hope The Dark Knight will be just as awesome. I have to go, I’m going to take my girlfriend to see it in an hour. Yes, I’m seeing it twice. Yes, in one day. Eat it.
