
- Man shot to death in Glen Avon - Riverside County sheriff’s investigators today identified a man fatally shot during a party in Glen Avon on Sunday. Investigators found Alfredo Duran Miranda, 22, of Riverside, in the 9600 block of Mission Boulevard about 1 a.m. Sunday with gunshot wounds. Miranda was shot during a fight that erupted outside of a party. Miranda was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not recovered a weapon, released suspect descriptions or made any arrests.
- DUI driver shot after attempted battery - LA police say a suspected 26-year-old drunken driver was shot when he threw a punch at someone in another vehicle who would not help him after a freeway crash. He was driving south in the northbound lanes of the Harbor Freeway early Sunday when he wrecked his 1990 Nissan. The man walked down a freeway ramp and flagged down a passing car. He told investigators that when the three people in the vehicle would not help him, he tried to punch one of them and was shot twice in the shoulder. No arrests have been made in the shooting.
- (Not quite LA) Man arrested after 300 dead cats found - 47-year-old Michael Louis Vondueren of Sacramento has been arrested after police say they found about 300 dead cats stuffed into three freezers, 30 live cats in the home, and a house filled with feces. Vondueren was arrested on suspicion of possessing an automatic weapon and obstructing police officers. Vondueren interfered with officers when they tried to enter his house. Police say Vondueren’s 81-year-old mother also was living at the house.
- One killed, one injured in big rig, vehicle accident - A man was fatally injured when he was ejected from the car he was driving after striking a big-rig in Huntington Beach on Sunday night. The crash took place around 10:30 p.m. on Beach Boulevard, north of Garfield Avenue. The front passenger in a Honda sedan was thrown from the car when it rear-ended a parked big-rig. The passenger, a man in his 20s, died at the scene. The Honda’s driver was taken to UCI Medical Center with unknown injuries.
- Man found dead in Horth Hills Swimming pool - A man drowned in a swimming pool at a North Hills apartment building on Sunday night. The drowning was reported around 10:30 p.m. The victim had been swimming in a pool at an apartment on Sepulveda Blvd. and was later found lying at the bottom. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
- Man arrested in murder of 33-year-old Long Beach woman - A Long Beach man was in custody Monday for allegedly killing a woman whose burned body was found in an alley in Signal Hill. Jose Linares, 29, was booked on suspicion of murder in the death of 33-year-old Sylvia Padilla, whose body was discovered about 10:25 a.m. Linares was scheduled to appear Monday in Long Beach Municipal Court, 415 W. Ocean Blvd., according to the sheriff’s department.
