  • Suspect jabs cop with syringe - An unidentified man, was arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotics late Tuesday after he crashed a white van into several parked cars near Strongs Drive at about 10:10 p.m. The man first attempted to drive away from the scene and when two officers tried to remove him from the van, he struggled with them, she said, pricking both with a syringe.Both officers were later treated and released from a local hospital. The man, who suffered facial and head injuries, was also taken to a local hospital, treated and released into police custody.
  • Three year-old in critical condition after near drowning - A 3-year-old boy who nearly drowned in his family’s swimming pool was hospitalized in critical condition on Wednesday. The accident happened in the 41300 block of Shadow Palm Way occurred about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The boy’s name was withheld, and no information was made public about the circumstances of the accident.
  • Cops seek help in dog burning in Lancaster - Sheriff’s deputies are seeking the public’s help in finding the person who deliberately set a dog on fire. The 8-month-old female pit bull mix was set ablaze in the 300 block of East Lingard Street shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday. Neighbors heard a dog yelping and saw it running in circles in the street, engulfed in flames. A woman put out the fire by blanketing the dog with her shirt. The dog suffered from burns and blisters to the right rear leg and back. It was was taken to the county animal shelter and later transferred to a local animal hospital. There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest.

  • Man given six years for trying to kiss 6-year-old boy - A 61-year-old man accused of kissing a 10-year-old boy in a Palmdale school cafeteria bathroom and attempting to molest him on another occasion has been sentenced to six years in prison. Jorge Aparicio was allowed to enter the Joshua Hills campus to bring meals to his two nephews at breakfast and lunch times and he was arrested April 11 after sheriff’s deputies set up a sting in the cafeteria with the cooperation of the boys’ parents and the school.
  • Two alleged robbers plead not guilty to murder - A man and woman Wednesday pleaded not guilty in the slaying of an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection employee, Mylus Mondy, during an attempted robbery. Mondy was attacked around 11:30 p.m. March 9 as he arrived at an ATM in the 6600 block of La Cienega in Los Angeles. The accused gunman, McKenzie Carl Bryant, 23, and co-defendant Enjoli Elan McClendon, 22, will remain jailed without bail. Mondy, 48, walked up to the ATM, unaware that a robbery was in progress, and was hit on the head, ordered to turn over his money and had a gun pointed at him. He was shot as he tried to run away. He died the next day.
  • Animal Controller arrested for drowning 50 kittens - Kevin Murphy, Adelanto’s head animal control officer, has resigned. He was placed on paid leave in March after prosecutors accused the 36-year-old of drowning the kittens over a four-month period. He faces six counts of animal cruelty. Kathy Williamson of the Victor Valley Animal Protective League said she took in animals that Adelanto Animal Control workers brought her. She said the city paid her $23 to take in a live cat for up to 10 days; $10 to take a dead one.
  • Train and SUV collide - Authorities say a commuter train hit an SUV, leaving the driver with moderate injuries. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the SUV hit the Metro Blue Line train at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday just south of downtown. There were no reports of injuries from the train.
