- Metallica, The Offspring, Flobots get Weenied: I remember when I was a kid I would get so excited at the announcement of the KROQ Weenie Roast. It felt like Christmas again, anticipating every name on the radio then imagining how exciting it would be to see bands like Everclear, Garbage and No Doubt on the same bill. Man, life was simple back then. I could ride my bike with no handlebars, you know.I still get a little tingle of anticipating when Kevin and Bean announce the annual lineup. I feel genuine excitement. That is, you know, until they announce Metallica as the headliner of the 2008 show. While I know Metallica is one of the most popular bands on earth I guess I still just don’t get it. Maybe I just never went through my heavy metal phase but every time I hear “Enter Sandman” or “Sad But True” I turn it right to STAR for some Lorena McKennit. Regardless, Metallica is a big get for KROQ as they will play their first their first LA show in about 5 years. Keep reading to see who else will be there…

- Joining the band at the top of the bill is The Offspring, whose new single “Hammerhead” sounds exactly live every other Offspring song released after “Americana”
- The Raconteurs, one of the only Pitchforkmedia.com approved bands on the bill
- The always powerful Rise Against, who have become kind of the official KROQ festival band.
- Also playing are Pennywise and Bad Religion (other perennial KROQ festival bands)
- The Bravery (yey!)
- System of a Down side project Scars of Broadway,
- As well as Seether, Flogging Molly, Atreyu, MGMT, The Flobots (handlebars!) and Ludo.
- The show takes place at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on May 17th, and tickets will go on sale soon in some creative KROQ way. As usual they will sell out in about 30 seconds and rioting will ensue.

Alkaline Trio Dates? Oh My, Yes: Not that I’ve been wallowing in bad news such as $4 gas, Democratic party infighting, dead horses and Detroit Red Wing playoff wins, but damnit, I could go for some good news right now. Something to mark down on my calendar and look forward to. OMFG: The Alkaline Trio is touring again! Hip-hip-hooray! The Trio is going out on tour in anticipation of their upcoming Sony/EPIC release “Agony and Irony” (gotta love the puns) which is due out on July 1st. The band will hit the House of Blues- Hollywood on July 26th with American Steel opening. - My Bloody Valentine Finally Touring: The last time My Bloody Valentine played a US show things were different: moon pies were plentiful. Hannah Montana was not household name, but instead a name that sounded better suited for a stripper. We had yet to harness the truly pornographic potential of the internet. And Chalupas were but a wonderful, tasty dream. Finally, after years of waiting and an unfulfilled rumor of the band headlining this years Coachella Festival (instead we got Roger Waters and his wayward swine), the band is ready to set foot back in the land of the Whooper with a handful of dates for an upcoming Summer/ Autumn US tour. And when I mean a handful, I truly mean a handful. As of right now the band will headline the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Monticello, New York on September 19-21, play the Roseland Ballroom on Septemeber 22-23, hit Toronto on Sept 25th, Chicago on Sept 30th, San Francisco on Sept. 30th and finally wind down with two shows on Oct. 1-2 at the Santa Monica Civic Center. No word on shows for Boise, Fargo or North Haberbrook. Tickets should go on sale soon so stay tuned.
