Sports: Flourishing Beckham Wins “Player of the Week”

david beckham08-05-08At last David Beckham is showing his skills on the field rather than outside. In the world of soccer it doesn’t matter what you look like, how much money you make or who are you married to. In the world of soccer what matters is the will and the heart you put in every single game.

There is no doubt that Beckham is starting to do so. For the second time in this young season, the British superstar has been named the Major League Soccer’s “Player of the Week.” This is partly due to his two extraordinary goals that gave the Los Angeles Galaxy a 2-2 tie with Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

Fans all over the world are ready to finally see the amazing Beckham, not the mediocre one. So much anticipation has been raised with his arrival and after the disappointing season last year, everyone is hoping to see a positive turnaround.

Things are looking good, but only time will tell if the sometimes fragile British sensation can stay healthy and contribute throughout the whole season. Something that wasn’t done last year.

Los Angeles is currently one point behind the Western Conference leaders Colorado and FC Dallas and they have the best offense in the nation with 13 goals. This is greatly due to the nation’s top scorer Landon Donovan who is finally clicking and understanding Beckham’s style of play.

If the Beckham/Donovan duo can flourish, there’s no doubt that they can be one of the most dangerous couples in the game. More or less like a Shaq and Kobe in basketball (when they liked each other). If everything works out, the Galaxy can once again be a serious contender to the championship after being out of the playoffs for the past two years.

The future looks bright for Los Angeles, but all fans can do now is think positive, wait and well… let things play out.
