The Lakers are now facing their first adversity of the 2008 playoffs. It will be interesting to see how the team responds to losing twice in Utah. The Angels and Dodgers meet in Anaheim for the first of their two yearly series. Both teams are coming off rough weeks.

The Lakers went into Utah last week and lost both of their games against the Jazz, the second one in overtime after an extremely hard-fought game in which Ronny Turiaf was ejected for a flagrant foul. Turiaf may wind up with a suspension, which would definitely hurt the Lakers as they seek to regain control of the series at Staples Center on Wednesday. The Wednesday game is shaping up to be a must-win for the Lakers with the Jazz playing so well at home. Look for them to win, but lose on Friday, setting up a game seven next week.

The Dodgers started out the week extremely well by beating the Mets twice in a row to continue their winning ways, but the boys in blue fell flat on their faces, losing four in a row, including a three game sweep at the hands of the Houston Astros. Now they face the Brewers, a preseason favorite in the NL Central that is currently below .500 due to the struggles of stars Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder. Then comes the dreaded trip to Anaheim, where the Dodgers always struggle. This week may be a tough one for the Dodgers.
Angels

The Angels have also lost four in a row, losing their perch atop the AL West in the process. Up next are the White Sox, who are second in the Central, although they have just a .500 record. The Angels need to win that series to set themselves up for the weekend against the Dodgers, who they will probably beat in yet another series. The best part of this week for the Angels is a chance to hear their games announced by Vin Scully instead of the dreadfulness we are normally stuck with when watching their games.
MLS
Galaxy

The Galaxy cannot seem to put together any sort of consistent form this season. They currently sit third in the Western Conference, but the MLS is sort of like the opposite of the NBA in that six of seven Eastern Conference teams have better records than the number one team in the West. Dallas is just ahead of the Galaxy in the standings, so the game could go either way depending on how the Galaxy play.
Chivas USA
- vs DC United, Saturday, 7:30
DC United are the one Eastern team that isn’t better than everyone in the West, but they still have a better record than Chivas USA, who lost yet again this past weekend. The team is really struggling with injuries right now, particularly on defense, so they might well fail to get a victory for another week.
