“I don’t think there’s anything that communicates better than art. It’s quicker than language and clearer than philosophy.”
–Frederick R. Weisman

The Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University is pleased to present Reflections from the Artist’s Eye: Contemporary Art from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation from May 17 to August 3, 2008.

The museum, located on the Pepperdine campus at 24255 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, CA, is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on Mondays and major holidays. There is no admission charge.

While some artists focus on the beauty of surface appearance, others probe beneath what the eye sees. Over the past decades artists have employed various tools–running the gamut from photography to television–to expand the scope of the human eye.

This exhibition explores various approaches to seeing, ranging from photorealism to comic caricature to cosmic abstraction. Each work offers a powerful statement about what it means to look at and reflect upon the world around us. The fascinating roster includes artists such as Charles Bell, Chema Cobo, Jack Goldstein, Joe Goode, Red Grooms, Yayoi Kusama, Matt Mullican, Nam June Paik, and Robert Yarber.

The exhibition is curated by Billie Milam Weisman.
