Eisley’s Combinations is, in short, different. I’ve never heard offbeat music mixed so well. Siblings Chauntelle, Stacy, Sherrie, and Weston and their cousin Garron Dupree make up the 5 piece band, and the harmonizing sisters prove to be nothing less than the essence of Eisley. One of my favorite things about music is harmonization - Eisley does this so well.
In their first Album, Room Noises, Eisley stayed relatively safe and conformed to the regulations of what contemporary music was at the time, but by the time Combinations rolled around, they were ready to make a statement - and they did.
Eisley’s sophomore album includes an interesting choice of instruments and melodies. “Invasion” is a song involving paranoia and questioning as to whether or not people are after them. The sisters sing, “You don’t have to know the truth / If you believe, I believe it too.” They shift from getting away from the things that haunt to another song, “Go Away”, a ballad regarding building the courage to tell someone to “Go Away, Go Away, Leave me / On my Own.”
“A Sight to Behold” sounds like a song meant to pump up an audience. This song comes up on my playlist every so often. The melody is one that is irregular, but the best thing about it is that it IS motivational. “We are forming a sight to behold… Cause you and I have so much to give.”
“Combinations”, the song the album was named after, is about finding love amidst all the complications of life. “Combinations all around us fill out / heads with the love we’ve been feeling / for time long passed.” The optimism shines through in this song, and rounds out a great combination of songs altogether.
