LA Wounded: Encino Shooting, Ammonia Causes Panic, Fire Kills Goats

- Shooting in Encino leads to school lock down - Los Angeles police were searching for two suspects who they said shot a man in Encino and fled into a neighborhood, prompting a tactical alert and a lockdown of area schools as a precaution. The wounded man, who was not identified, ran into Sal’s Market in the 17600 block of Ventura Blvd near White Oak Ave around noon to report he had been shot. Police set up a perimeter and used dogs to help track the suspects. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed stable condition.
- Man shot at market lives -A man was shot Wednesday at an Encino market and police were searching the area for the gunman. The shooting was reported at the Super Sal Market, 17630 Ventura Blvd., about 12:10 p.m.. According to reports from the scene the victim was taken to an area hospital in stable condition. Some LAPD officers were placed on tactical alert while the search for the gunman continued which allows commanders to hold over officers past the end of their shifts if deemed necessary.
- $10,000 reward offered for information on murder of clerk - A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the conviction of two men who fatally shot a 51-year-old woman while robbing her Gardena T-shirt shop. Hae Sook Roh of Harbor City was shot at Shirt 6 for $10, her store in the 2300 block of West Rosecrans Avenue, about 6:45 p.m. Investigators said the gunman who shot Roh was in his 20s and covered his face with a bandanna and wore shorts and a black jacket.
- Â Motorcyclist dies after crashing into bridge - A motorcyclist who was injured when his bike hit a bridge and went off a road died Wednesday. Thomas Curran, 53, of San Bernardino, was pronounced dead at 12:11 a.m. at Riverside Community Hospital, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office. The crash was reported at 9:34 p.m. Tuesday on Van Buren Blvd, just north of Jurupa Rd.
- Trailer fire leaves 8 homeless and kills 22 goats - A fire in a Thermal motor home Tuesday left four adults and four children homeless and killed 22 goats. Firefighters responded to the blaze in the double-wide trailer at Avenue 77 and Pierce Street just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fire investigators said the blaze may have started in the trailer’s laundry room. “It could have been much worse. Fortunately, we were able to make a stand on it and it didn’t overrun us.”
- Homeless man under train loses his limbs - A homeless man sleeping under a train lost an arm and leg when workers moved the Union Pacific freight car in Hawthorne. Police Lt. Mike Ishii says the man was conscious and talking when he arrived Tuesday afternoon at Los Angeles County-Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance. He was in serious condition.
- 3 Critically wounded in car crash - Two children and an adult were critically injured Wednesday and two other people were also hurt in a two-vehicle collision in North Hollywood. The crash was reported shortly after 7 a.m. at Laurel Cyn and Victory blvd.. Firefighters freed one person who was trapped in a vehicle. Police will move forward with an investigation.
- Ammonia leak sends 2 to hospital - Two people have been hospitalized and an industrial facility near downtown Los Angeles evacuated after a faulty pump leaked ammonia. Vernon Fire Department Battalion Chief Andrew Guth said personnel were sent to the Farmer John’s Packing Company Distribution Center late Tuesday. Two workers there had been exposed to ammonia, which is used in refrigeration. They were hosed down and taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.
