veck08-05-14Beck’s New Album

Everyone’s favorite guitar playin’, puppet havin’, jive dancin’ Scientologist Beck is coming out with a brand new album this summer, and a few tasty tidbits are beginning to emerge. According to Rolling Stone’s Rock Dailyblog, the album has been tentatively titled Modern Guilt (as a Jewish man in his 20’s I can fully get behind the title). The Danger Mouse produced record will feature ten songs and clocks in just under 30 minutes. The album has a broad “Summer” release date via Interscope Records, with rumors circulating that it could show up in just a few weeks in downloadable format. Beck plays the Hollywood Bowl September 20th with Spoon and MGMT in tow.

Weezer Pushes Up Album Release

For reason’s that could vary between “We need to capitalize on the strength of our hit single!” to “We need to get it out there before it gets leaked!” to “Just because we can! Nanny nanny boo boo!!!” Weezer (and I’m sure their record company) has decided to move up the release of their new self-titled “Red” album from June 24th to June 3rd. The band is currently riding the success of their uber-cathchy first single “Pork & Beans,” a song that is so good that I can almost forget the horror that was “Beverly Hills.” Almost.

By the way: for those of you keeping score at home, the band has now colored their self titled releases blue, green and red. Now that the band has used up all the primary colors they are now free to use mixed colors such as magenta, periwinkle and cyan for future releases

Ozzfest Is Coming!… To Dallas… Cough…

Planning a trip to Dallas in August? Gonna get some bar-b-que, talk to a cowboy, maybe marry the other Bush daughter? Well, feel free to add Ozzfest to your itinerary. After 10 years on the road (including the 2007’s “Free Fest” debacle) Ozzy’s Sharon Osbourne’s annual metal festival has scaled down to play a one off show instead of traveling the nation’s Live Nation amphitheaters. The single day, AEG Live sponsored event will be headlined by (shock!) Ozzy Obourne and (double shock!) Metallica. Other bands of note include Serj Tankian, Jonathan Davis from Korn, Hellyeah, Sevendust and tons more. The show takes place at Pizza Hut Park and tickets go on sale on May 31st at ozzfest.com. Outside of this weeks radio festivals in Tuscon and Irvine, this is Metallica’s only other US tour date this summer, which means that if you absolutely, positively have to see “St. Anger” live this summer then Dallas is your Mecca. For the rest of us, we can just go to Lucielle’s to get some bar-b-que.

Foxboro Hot Tubs Touring

Green Day alter-ego’s Foxboro Hot Tubs are hitting the road for the first time. The Buddy Holly laced side-project are scheduled for two Los Angeles area shows: May 27th at the Roxy in Hollywood and May 28th at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach. Tickets for each show are $20 and will only be available the day of the show at the venue box office. The press release also makes a point to state that no cameras will be allowed in the venue so, like UFO’s, the existence of these shows will only exist through rumors and hear-say.
