The Skinny on Top Model: And the winner is…

Ah, the end of Top Model. I always feel relieved and excited. And, a bit sad to see it go. Last night was no exception, as Cycle 10 came to an end, and Tyra finally shut up for at least a couple of weeks.

The girls jumped right in to shooting their Cover Girl commercial, this time (blessedly) in English. The scripts were given to the gals the night before, so there was no excuse for suckage. In makeup beforehand, Anya had a little cryfest, apparently overwhelmed by the joy of being a Top Model in Rome.

At the shoot, Fatima looked stunning but ran her lines together in a very “Beginning Acting 101″ type of way. Mr. Jay called it her ‘grocery list reading.’ She thought she did a good job because she thinks she is relatable. I’m not sure how a gorgeous, tall, skinny chic is relatable but it’s good she has some self-confidence.

Whitney seemed nervous but ended up doing the best out of the three. Her commercial sounded conversational, even if she was over-acting a bit.

Anya kept posing and was very hard to understand. Mr. Jay said she had good energy, which I’m sure she did on set because she seems sweet but I didn’t think it translated. In other words, me no speaky Pigeon.

The halfway point judging sent Fatima packing, which shocked me. She was called ‘robotic’. I really thought they’d keep Fatima and Whitney (featured below) and send Anya back to the big island. In hindsight, I think they kept Anya so that they could crown Whitney without much controversey. There’s a chance Fatima might have kicked Whitney’s ass in the fashion show. The producers of ANTM know it’s time for a plus size Top Model. They’ve been sitting in their big chairs, rubbing their hands together and planning this for at least a few weeks, if not all season.

whitney08-05-14But, back to last night. Anya and Whitney get to walk in a Versace fashion show. The cute little makeup dude points out that Whitney is the only “juicy bootie” to ever strut her junk. Very cool, dude. Whitney is cute and fun to watch. She does have a little too much strut and she kind-of looks like Barbie in the pink dress but she still rocks it. Poor Anya seemed like she was sleepwalking, although she looked super cool.

In judging, they reviewed the girls’ photos from way back in the day and tried to make it seem like they were even, though it was clear they’d pick Whitney. (She was the prettiest the whole season anyway, right?) The combination of her awesome Cover Girl photo and her obviously superior runway walk made Whitney the winner. Oh yeah, that and the fact that they knew it was time to give the people a big girl to love. As my little sister proclaimed, “Fat girls need love too.” Yeah.

Great post and I was rooting for Whitney, it’s about time someone like her won. However, here is a pretty interesting read over at FourFour about how Whitney never tried out for Top Model in the first place, but was rather approached, told to gain 10 to 20 lbs, so that she could be cast as a plus-size model. Hmmmm

I wouldn’t put it past the ole’ Top Model peeps to do that. I am so disappointed in them. Someone should send them to their rooms and make them think about their actions.
