After winning eleven of their last fourteen games, the Dodgers came into Wednesday game against the Brewers on a five game losing streak.
They were swept at home by the Astros handily. They lost the first game 7-1 behind a lousy pitching performance from Lowe and a lackluster offense. They were able to avoid the shut out by scoring their lone run in the ninth inning. They were unable to score a run in the second game losing 5-0. Billingsley struggled giving up all five runs in the first two innings, he settled down after that, but a struggling Dodgers offense couldn’t come through with any run support. The closing game against the Astros was the most competitive, but it still ended up as a 8-5 loss. The Dodgers had a three one lead going into the eighth inning, thanks to an outstanding pitching performance by Kuroda. The bullpen gave the game away though by giving up six runs in the eighth. If losing wasn’t bad enough, Furcal was put on the 15 day DL with a bad back, but is eligible to come back May 21st.
After the Astro sweep and an off day, the Dodgers went to Milwaukee to try and end their four game losing streak. By the end of the first game the streak continued with a 3-5 loss. Penny was unable to protect a two run lead giving the game up by allowing three runs in the fifth inning. Former Dodger closer Gagne came in and saved the game for the Brewers. The Dodger looked like they were going to keep their losing streak going the next night, but a three run ninth inning gave the Dodgers a 6-4 win. Juan Pierre led the offense with three hits and the game winning two run double in the ninth. The Dodgers kept the moment and beat the Brewers in the rubber game 7-1. Billingsley pitched seven solid shutout innings and the Dodgers scored six runs in the sixth inning, on home runs off the bats of Andruw Jones, Kent and Bennett (three run HR), for the victory.
The Dodgers kick off inter league play at Angel Stadium against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. They will be faced with the tough task of trying to beat two of the games dominant pitchers right now, Joe Saunders (6-1) and Ervin Santana (6-0).
