
- Update on Church festival shooting - Further details of the church festival shooting reported on yesterday have risen, including the fact that the shooter was a parolee who walked into the festival and opened fire wounding the mother of his child and two bystanders. Fernando Diaz Jr., 33, of North Hollywood walked into the festival at St. John Baptist de la Salle Church, kissed his son and fired several rounds at his ex-girlfriend and festival volunteers before school parents tackled him to the ground. Diaz, who was booked on at least three counts of attempted murder told a radio reporter on Saturday that he didn’t have much to say. “It’s personal,” Diaz said. “It’s an issue between me and the church.”
- LAPD officers shoot and kill gun-aiming man - On early Saturday evening at 45th Street between Broadway and Main Street, LAPD officers shot and killed a man they say aimed a gun at them. The two officers were responding to a report of a man with a gun and eventually ended up detaining a suspect. With one suspect in custody, the officers then saw another suspect who pointed a gun at them. Once officer opened fire and fatally wounded the man, who was declared dead at California Hospital Medical Center.
- Unknown substance at convalescent hospital sends six to hospital - Two employees and four patients who complained of respiratory distress because of an unknown substance at the Sherman Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center were taken to the hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics early Sunday. A hazardous material team was sent to the address, but the source of the unknown substance was unknown.
