
- Two-year-old possibly murdered by family - Paramedics were called Monday night to a home in the 200 block of South Huntington Drive, where they discovered the lifeless body of 2-year-old Isabelle Garcia. The toddler appeared to be killed from blunt force trauma to the head. Family members told authorities that one of the toddler’s siblings put the child to bed half an hour before her body was discovered. Coroner’s investigators who examined the body said they also noted bruises and malnourishment.
- Daughter arrested after her father’s body is found buried in her yard - A 58-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of killing her father, whose body was discovered in the backyard of his Bellflower home today in the 9800 block of Potter Street near Liggett Street on Monday afternoon to check on an 85-year-old man. When they arrived, deputies were greeted by the man’s daughter. A search of the property turned up the body of the elderly man, “skeletonized” and covered with debris, including bedding, cardboard and chicken wire in the backyard. The daughter was subsequently arrested.
- Man stabbed to death in his Long Beach home - A man was stabbed to death in his Long Beach home. The 46-year-old man died at the scene of the crime, which was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Monday in the 1800 block of East 61st Street. Authorities withheld the man’s name, pending notification of his relatives. No arrests were reported.
- $50,000 award being given out for information on the attack of Jewish man - A $30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to a conviction in last month’s attack on a 59-year-old Orthodox Jewish man in the San Fernando Valley. The Anti-Defamation League says it’s adding $5,000 to the $25,000 reward arranged by the Los Angeles City Council. The group says the victim was wearing a yarmulke while out for a walk in North Hollywood when he was attacked by two men who punched and kicked him while making anti-Semitic comments. Anti-Defamation League regional director Amanda Susskind says she’s concerned by a recent spate of incidents in the San Fernando Valley that include the Molotov cocktail attack on a Jewish community center and the spray-painting of anti-Semitic graffiti.
- Man convicted of killing two men at a gas station - A 24-year-old man has been convicted of killing two Mobil Mart gas station employees during a failed Carson beer heist. Esther Arteaga, a 32-year-old Wilmington mother, and 74-year-old Eduardo Roco were shot to death on Nov. 4, 2006, behind the counter at the gas station. Arteaga was being trained for the overnight shift by Roco. A Compton jury on Monday convicted Adam Loza on two counts of murder with special circumstances enhancements and two counts of attempted robbery.
- Man shot to death in Lennox -Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of Oscar Orendain, 33, in the unincorporated area of Lennox. The shooting took place Monday afternoon in the 10200 block of Grevillea Avenue near Century Boulevard. According to sheriff’s homicide detectives, the victim was arguing with two people when one of them produced a handgun and shot him in the upper body shortly after 4:30 p.m.. He died at the hospital. A description of the two suspects has not been made available. Anyone with information should call (323) 890-5500.
