
- Man caught on camera molesting child - Police arrested Jaime Elvis Elizondo, 33, of San Gabriel, on Wednesday following the alleged attack, which was captured on store surveillance tape. He is suspected of inappropriately touching himself against the girl and was booked on suspicion of one count of committing lewd acts with a child. Elizondo was being held on $100,000 bail.
- Man arrested for torturing cat - A man is under arrest, charged felony animal cruelty, for allegedly shooting a house cat with a pellet gun. The black-and-white male cat survived the February shooting which took place on Bee Canyon Road near Highway 74 in the Hemet area. On Feb. 3, two officers with the U.S. Forest Service came across a man they believed might be involved with illegal dumping trash when they noticed two pellet guns and a live cat in a trap. Animal Services Officer Jennifer Sinclair transported the wounded cat to the Emergency Pet Clinic of the Inland Empire in Temecula. Doctors there observed what appeared to be chemical burns to the cat’s paws and coat, possibly from gasoline or kerosene.The cat suffered a puncture wound to his cornea in the right eye and it needed to be removed.
- Man wanted for drugging ice skater - The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Friday publicly identified a man who is wanted in connection with a date-rape drug case involving two-time Olympic gold medal winner Oksana Grishuk.Authorities issued an arrest warrant for James R. Halstead, 61, of Santa Ana, and asked for the public’s help in locating him. Grishuk, 36, began to feel woozy and noticed a pill dissolving in her drink on April 12 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point. After she tested positive for the date-rape drug GHB, authorities called the Orange County man with whom she was meeting a “person of interest” in the case.
- Teacher gets time for having oral sex with student - An ex-substitute teacher at a Long Beach high school was sentenced Friday to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to having oral sex with a 15-year-old male student. Dion Semaj Holton, 32, who occasionally taught at Cabrillo High School, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of oral copulation with a minor under 16. He will have to register as a sex offender for life. He apologized to the victim, school and school district during the sentencing.
- 5 Employees tied up during Rite Aid robbery - Two robbers Friday targeted a Rite Aid drug store in the Country Club Park area of Los Angeles. The assailants tied up five employees and threw them into a shed at the back of the store while they took $4,000 in cash. A sixth employee, who had not been seen by the men, managed to sneak out of the store and call for help. Officers arrived after the robbers left the scene and found the employees, who were not injured, in the shed. It was not immediately clear how the men gained access to the store. Neither man was wearing a mask, he said, but one of them was carrying a gun. No arrests have been made.
- Men attack flight attendant on plane - Federal charges have been filed against a man who’s accused of drunkenly attacking a flight attendant on a Los Angeles-bound jetliner. Authorities claim 49-year-old James Cameron of Anaheim disrupted a United Airlines flight from Hong Kong last month before he was tackled by passengers and crew members, who then duct-taped him to his seat. Cameron was charged Thursday with assault and interfering with the duties of a flight attendant, then released on bond. He could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted.
- Bicyclist killed by truck - A bicyclist was fatally struck by a bus Friday morning in El Monte. The unidentified man died at the scene of the 9:15 accident. The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
- Woman faced with felony charges for pit bull attack - Felony charges have been filed against the owner of a pit bull that attacked and seriously injured a Southeast Area Animal Control Authority officer. Antoynette Michelle Jenkins is charged with one count of owning mischievous dogs causing bodily injuries for a May 7 pit bull attack on officer Vince Hernandez, who underwent surgery for injuries to his right hand and arm. LA County prosecutors also charged the Lakewood woman with two counts of animal cruelty because of the unhealthy condition of her dogs.
