Sport Report: Lakers Dominate Second Half on Way to 2-0 Series Lead

May 24th, 2008 Written by: Bryan· 1 Comment

laker logoThe Lakers finished the first half of last night’s game 2 against the Spurs with a 9-0 flurry that proved to be the crucial tipping point. Los Angeles went on to dominate the second half putting a virtual stranglehold on this series if history is any indicator. When Phil Jackson led teams win the first game of a playoff series they simply don’t lose. Phil is hovering around 40-0 in that scenario making game 1 a veritable closeout situation. It’s the equivalent of Phil Jackson putting on an afro and quoting Ezekiel 25:17 to the opposition. You can’t get much better than 40-0 which makes game 2 seem kind of moot. It would be moot except that these are the defending champion Spurs. These are the same Spurs many so called experts wrote off after two blowout losses to the Hornets…exactly one series ago. So have we learned our lesson about never counting out the champs? Let’s hope so. The precedent set by Phil Jackson coached teams makes this series even more compelling when you consider the opponent, a proud San Antonio team that has won 4 championships in the last 9 years.

The Lakers have protected their turf, now they have to try and get one on the road. It’s clear the Spurs won’t be blowing out the Lakers in any of these games so if you ever see Stoudamire, Udoka, Vaughn, Barry, and Kurt Thomas on the floor at the same time as we did last night…rest assured, this series is over. Game 3 tips Sunday @ 5:30 p.m. on ABC. A few other items of note from last nights game:Botox and HGH apparently combine to make a truly horrific synergy, just ask Sly Stallone’s face. Seriously, it’s not okay to show close-ups of this man in a live setting…in particular if you have HD. Did anyone notice TNT shamelessly plugging the Bill Engvall show by forcing Bill Engvall to go to the game and act like he is a fan of anything other than terrible comedy? He was wearing a Western Conference Finals hat. This much we now know. TNT doesn’t play favorites. Also, Eva Longoria didn’t look too upset that her husband’s team was wholly embarrassed last night. In fact, looks like she’s ready for a summer vacation. Not good news for Spurs fans.

I am hoping for a Lakers vs Celtics final. We just have to win at least one in Detroit and all at home.
