Memorial Day weekend embraced Los Angeles soccer as both the Galaxy and Chivas USA teams won in convincing fashion in Week 9 of the Major League Soccer. At the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., the Galaxy were victorious over the Kansas City Wizards with a final score of 3-1. On the other hand, Chivas USA paid a visit to the Colorado Rapids and left the Centennial State with a 2-1 victory. It was a cold and rainy Saturday night in Los Angeles, but that didn’t stop more than 24,000 fans witness an important victory for the Galaxy. The clouds reigned the sky but the stars shined strong once again. Landon Donovan, Edson Buddle and David Beckham all scored for the home team. The deadly trio not only gave the Galaxy the win, but also the highest spot in the Western Conference with 14 points and a (4-3-2) record.

Argentinian striker Claudio Lopez scored the solitary goal for the Wizards who now fall in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with this loss and a record of (3-4-2).

In Colorado, Jesse Marsch and Jorge Flores were the ones in charge of giving Chivas USA a significant away win with their goals. This victory escalates the “Chiverio” to fourth place in the Western Conference with 11 points and a record of (3-4-2). This is the first win outside the Home Depot Center for Chivas and it places them in a good position for the right to be in the playoffs.

For the Rapids, Tom McManus scored a goal beautiful enough to be considered the best in the week, but it didn’t help Colorado as they fall into second place in the West with a (4-5-0) record.

After a slow start, both L.A. teams are slowly but surely climbing up the ladder in the Western Conference and can be considered as serious threats coming playoff time.
