I have an accessory habit. After many months of blowing my budget on just one bauble from Fred Segal or perhaps two from Banana Republic, I discovered something magic. Forever 21 has an accessories store! Roo-roooo! Yes, the stuff is cute and no, it doesn’t look like it cost 5 bucks. I won’t tell anyone you shop there. It’ll be our little secret.
During a trip to Texas recently, my entire jewelry bag flew out the back of a truck going 75 miles an hour on a two-lane highway in the rain. (Yes, seriously.) I cried like I was in a bad country song. I’d brought most of my favorite stuff on my trip with me and I feared I’d be the worst-accessorized girl in Los Feliz upon my return to LA.
My first day back, I hit For Love 21 in the Glendale Galleria. This is what 30 bucks bought me: one pair rad sunglasses, 2 necklaces, 1 scarf, 3 pairs of earrings. Not too shabby, right?
I recommend shopping there for trendy stuff you’ll only wear this season like lucite bangles or white plastic hoop earrings. They have great headbands and scarves for bad hair days, and their big clunky necklace selection is second to none. The store tends to knock off designers in a way that makes you feel thrifty, not pathetic. Wear your cheapo jewelry with your Marc Jacobs shoes and know that you rock!
Some of the items are gross but, never fear, you’ll know the cheese when you see it. One drawback is that you can’t return anything but I’ve never had anything break. And, at 4 bucks a bracelet, who cares if it flies out the back of your father’s pickup truck or off your wrist while you’re dancing at a club? Go forth and be crazy.

My mouth literally dropped when I read this! Sorry to hear about the loss of your jewelry. But at least you can use Bush’s stimulus money to replenish it. Thank God.

It was not a fun thing. You handled it better than I did though. Glad you found some cool stuff.
