Local Events: BookExpo America

oldbookexpo08-05-28 If you’re a new an upcoming writer, an avid reader, or just someone who likes to collect books so that others think you’re smart, than this is the event for you. BookExpo America and Writer’s Digest Books kicks of their annual BookExpo America tomorrow at the LA Convention Center. The event runs from May 29-June 1 and is jam packed with amazing things to so. This will be the first year that it’s held in LA and won’t be back for a while so enjoy it while it’s here!

There will be a ton of special guests including Alec Baldwin, Lewis Black, Michael Moore, best-selling author Jacuelyn Mitchard, as well as famous agents, editors, and authors. There are more autograph signings than you could ever hope for, you can view the list here. As well as booths and discussion set up everywhere to help motivate you to get writing and get published.

Friday, May 30th:

8:00-9:30am will host the Children’s Book and Author Breakfast (at Concourse Hall). Authors include:

  • Sherman Alexie, author of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers)
  • Judy Blume, author of Going, Going, Gone! with the Pain and the Great One (Delacorte Press Books for Young Readers)
  • Neil Gaiman, author of The Graveyard Book (HarperCollins).
  • Eoin Colfer, author of Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox (Hyperion Books for Children/Disney Book Group) will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Saturday, May 31st:

8:00-9:30am will host the Saturday Book and Author Breakfast (at Concourse Hall). Authors include:

  • Magic Johnson, author of an untitled book on business (Crown Business)
  • Philippa Gregory, author of The Other Queen (Touchstone/Simon & Schuster)
  • Andre Dubus III, author of The Garden of Last Days: A Novel (W.W. Norton)
  • Alec Baldwin, author of A Promise To Ourselves: A Journey Through Divorce and Fatherhood ( St. Martin ’s Press) will be the Master of Ceremonies.

  • Lewis Black will appear at BEA’s Saturday night benefit on behalf of his new book, Me of Little Faith. Me of Little Faith is a ferociously funny exploration of religion and faith in which he examines how the rules and constraints of religion have affected his life and the lives of us all.

Sunday June 1st:

8:00-9:30am will host the Saturday Book and Author Breakfast (at Concourse Hall). Authors include:

  • Ted Turner, author (with Bill Burke) of Call Me Ted (Grand Central)
  • Azar Nafisi, author of Things I’ve Been Silent About: A Memoir of Family (Random House)
