The Lakers are back in the Finals against their old rivals, but we have to wait until Thursday so that the TV schedule is optimum for the NBA. The Angels and Dodgers are heading in opposite directions, but both face teams that have fallen flat on their faces this season.
NBA
Lakers
- at Boston, Thursday, 6:00, ABC
- at Boston, Sunday, 6:00, ABC
The Lakers have made it back to the Finals for another edition of their traditional rivalry with the Celtics after a Western Conference Finals that was way easier than many people thought it would be. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the Celtics are a much better team than the Spurs this season. Longtime stars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are still looking for their first championships, meaning the Celtics will be just as hungry as the Lakers, and more talented. I expect the Lakers to lose a hard-fought series.
MLB
Dodgers
- vs Colorado, Monday, 7:10, FSPT
- vs Colorado, Tuesday, 7:10, FSPT
- vs Colorado, Wednesday, 12:10, FSPT
- vs Chicago Cubs, Thursday, 7:10, KCAL
- vs Chicago Cubs, Friday, 7:40, FSPT, WGN
- vs Chicago Cubs, Saturday, 12:55, FOX
- vs Chicago Cubs, Sunday, 5:05, ESPN
The Dodgers have fallen on hard times, having lost 6 of their last 7, including a sweep at the hands of the Cubs last week. Colorado is doing even worse this season after going to the World Series last year. The Rockies are in last place in the NL West, 12 games back of Arizona. The Dodgers have received underwhelming (to say the least) performances from a number of key players this season, but some of those players, foremost among them Brad Penny, Jeff Kent, and the injured Andruw Jones, show no signs of being able to recover, so this could be a long season for the Dodgers.
Angels
- at Seattle, Monday, 7:10, FSW
- at Seattle, Tuesday, 7:10, FSW
- at Seattle, Wednesday, 7:10, FSW
- at Oakland, Friday, 7:05, FSW
- at Oakland, Saturday, 6:05, KCOP
- at Oakland, Sunday, 1:05, KCOP
The Angels have won their last five series and Seattle should be easy fodder for a sixth straight. The Mariners were expected to compete, but are a complete disaster instead. The A’s are in an opposite position, playing tough despite predictions for a terrible season. Still, the Angels are clearly the best team in the AL West and should be able to increase their lead this week.
MLS
Galaxy
- vs Colorado, Saturday, 7:30, FSW
The Galaxy lost to Toronto on Saturday, but were without both of their star players, Landon Donovan and David Beckham. They are still tied for second in the Western Conference, but now face the first place Rapids, who are still only .500 on the season.
Chivas USA
- at New York, Thursday, 4:30, ESPN2
Chivas USA are also tied for second in the West after winning three in a row, including two against the much stronger East. The team seems to finally be rounding into form and stands a decent chance against the Red Bull, possibly setting up the most meaningless race for home field advantage in history with the Galaxy.
