Speaking to a huge crowd of screaming supporters in St. Paul, Minnesota - the same city that Senator John McCain will be nominated as the GOP’s official nominee in August - Senator Barack Obama has claimed his victory has the presumptive nominee for the Democratic party.
Whatever side of the aisle you stand on, whoever you have been supporting, tonight is when we “mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another” as Senator Obama said himself so eloquently this evening.
It’s been a long race, nearly 16 months of hard fought campaigning and 54 primary contests, but it has indeed come to an end. So tonight, to the thousands of staff members, volunteers, supporters and families on both sides - give yourselves a huge round of applause, a pat on the back, and a hearty toast to your valiant efforts and work. Tonight you revel in this moment and the glory. Tomorrow you hit the pavement for the fight of all fights.
The race is on!

If Obama manages to win this election, I really think I will cry tears of joy. If not, I’m moving to Canada, eh?
