LA Wounded: Flip-Over Crash, Gun Battle, West Nile Dangers

  • Flip-over crash causes minor injuries - A crash that occurred shortly before 8 a.m. this morning at Hayvenhurst Avenue at West Sherman Way caused minor injuries. A distress call indicated there were possibly two patients with unknown injuries, said d’Lisa Davies, the Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman.
  • Gunbattle between suspect wounds cop - A gun battle in Boyle Heights that lead to a nearly 5 hour standoff ended with a police detective being shot and the suspect being killed, as well as two others surrendering. The detective, who was name was not released was shot in the leg and escaped a potentially deadly wound to his head when a bullet ricocheted off his ballistic helmet Los Angeles Police Department Chief William Bratton said. The gunfire broke out as officers entered a residence on Malabar Street near Soto Street around 3 p.m., in an attempt to serve a search warrant.
  • West Nile dangers increase because of foreclosures - Associated Press has reported that West nile virus dangers have increased because of stagnant swimming pools behind abandoned homes. The pools are breeding grounds for mosquitoes, who pass the virus onto humans and horses.
