Celeb Roundup: Somebody Do Something

  • Clint Eastwood and Spike Lee are one step away from a cat fight!  While promoting his new movie, “Miracle St. Anna”, Spike told reporters that Clint  “made two films about Iwo Jima that ran for more than four hours total, and there was not one Negro actor on the screen.”  He thinks Clint should’ve put some African American soldiers in the films.  (What would’ve been really messed up is if there were no Japanese actors.)  Clint responded by saying that Spike Lee should “shut his face.”  This story made me cry-laugh a little bit.  The thought of Clint Eastwood uttering that sentence is so priceless.  These two should arm-wrestle it out.  Maybe on The Daily Show?  Jon Stewart can dress as a referee with a little whistle and everything. *Fingers crossed.*
  • Brit Brit will make a cameo in a Pussycat Dolls video.  She drives by the girls and (drumroll) waves.   An on-set source says that Britney looks “hot and blonde.”  Ok.  Let me get this straight. Britney’s big comeback consists of a day-player roll on a sitcom and a featured extra part in a video by a crappy girl band?  I think my friend’s chihuahua has worked more than that this year.

  • Christina Aguilera goes out.  If you’re a regular mom, people are always trying to get you to leave the kiddo at home and go out.  If you’re a celebrity, you apparently cannot leave the house or the media will make a big hairy deal out of it.  Leave the gal and her red lipstick alone!  Do you think she wears it in the house?  Like when she’s watering the plants and scooping the litter box, is she doing it with big red lips?  Just wondering.

I feel Clint is sticking to historical accuracy in those films and I’m surprised that he’s responded to Spike with such anger instead of explanation. I think putting in African-American characters where there wasn’t any in the real situation depicts history incorrectly. Many people watch movies and think what they see is the truth and most often it’s about what producers feel will make the film more profitable at the box office. There is a wealth of real events in history; especially in WWII, where Black soldiers, airmen and sailors distinguished themselves. I would hope that these two directors of such incredible talent would collaborate on a project which is historically accurate and includes all the races who were considered the “Greatest Generation” in WWII.
