
- Man charged with murder for crash killing two - Sean Martin Mishlof, 24, who was allegedly driving under the influence, has been charged with two counts each of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter. Mishlof was driving a 1995 Mercury Mystique on Ventura blvd. just after 2 a.m. Saturday when the car rear-ended a 1990 Nissan Sentra that was stopped at a red light. Both victims, Sepehr Keshavar and Farzad Etesamifar, were wearing seatbelts but suffered serious head trauma and were pronounced dead at the scene. If convicted of all charges, he faces 30 years to life.
- Parole violator barricaded himself in house - An unknown man wanted on a parole violation barricaded himself inside a residence in El Monte house at 6am this morning and has yet to come out. Some residents were evacuated from the building on the 11100 block of Mulhall St. No injuries have been reported and it is unclear if he’s holding hostages.
- Custodian arrested for molesting young girl - Pablo Rios Fregoso, 63, of El Monte was placed on paid administrative leave April 25, the same day the girl told school officials that the custodian had touched her inappropriately. Yesterday we was arrested for fondling a third-grade girl. School officials contacted child protective services and the police as soon as the girl reported the alleged abuse. Fregoso has worked at the school for five years and for nearly 20 years in the district. Like all district employees, he was fingerprinted and passed a criminal background check. - Teenage girl badly hurt in crash - A 16-year-old girl suffered major injuries when a station wagon driven by her 17-year-old boyfriend accidentally sideswiped her SUV as she drove along side him. The boy, driving a Volvo station wagon, started drifting toward the center median and over-corrected, forcefully sideswiping his girlfriend’s Honda sport utility vehicle. The impact caused the girl driving the SUV to lose control, careen off the roadway and crash headfirst into a tree. The boyfriend remained at the scene and tried to help his girlfriend out of the wreckage. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the girl out of the vehicle. She was taken to the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with major injuries. “The boyfriend was very distraught,” said police. “But he has been cooperative with the investigation.”
