confide08-06-13CityZine brings you LA band, Confide, as part of our “Know Your LA Bands” series. Although, very young and fresh, this band has known what it takes to reach out to their audience and do well on their own terms. Powerful and loud on many levels, their music is accessible among the youth who need guidance and just great music to rock out to.

Supported by a great following, Confide has managed to put together a great CD titled, Shout Out The Truth. Join them tonight June 12th - 7:00pm for their first record release party if you can. Rock your face off at Chain Reaction in Anaheim. The first 100 people get free t-shirts! If not tonight, catch them tomorrow in Palmdale. For their upcoming Warped Tour dates, you can check them out on their myspage page.

CityZine was lucky enough to speak with the band’s bassist, Billy. Keep reading to get in on his thoughts on the evolution of music, charities and his favorite local radio station.

Could you give a brief description of your music?

It’s Christian hardcore music.

How many fans do you have on MySpace? How many of them do you actually know?

We have over 37,000 now and the ones that talk to us, which is a strong majority, we have great relationships with.

Do you prefer gearing up for a tour or coming home from a tour?

Gearing up for a tour, for sure.

If you could play a different instrument in your band, what would it be?

Drums.

How long have you been playing music? How many instruments can you play?

I can play bass and guitar. It’s about 4 years now.

Where do you see your music in 10 years?

If the band’s still around, I hope the music continually evolves and changes each record we put out in a healthy way.

What would be the best compliment someone could give you about your music? And why?

That it helped them though a hard time. Just knowing what we do actually reaches kids in that way is amazing.

What’s the best piece of advice someone has every given you and did you take notice?

We’ve taken so much advice this past year, it’s hard to choose. We’re such a young band that we take advice from anyone willing to give any because we honestly - in the big picture - don’t really know what we’re doing yet.

What would be the best piece of advice you could give someone trying to break into the music business?

Do you what you love and not what someone else loves. Because at the end of the day, you’re going to have to play your music in front of the tough crowds and if you don’t love it then you won’t enjoy what music is all about to begin with.

What’s your most memorable experience on the road story?

I just love the traveling aspect of it all. Seeing all those places that were in my history book in high school up close in person is just amazing to me.

Dead or alive. What 5 acts would you have play with you at a festival?

Speaking for the whole band here, I’d say: Peter Gabriel, Linkin Park, As Cities Burn, Slipknot, and Blink 182.

What’s your favorite song to play live?

“Zeal,” because of all its energy and the crowd always sings along with it.

If you could rid the world of one song, what would it be?

That stupid Chipmunk disco remix song.

What messages do you hope your songs send out to listeners? If any.

A lot of our songs are about tough times we’ve had in life and the hope and love that we have found to help us through those tough times. I’d love for the kids to get to know about hope and love and be able to take something from that.

Who would you like to see open for one of your shows?

Anyone really. We love meeting new bands and sharing the stage with anyone who is really down to play and enjoy music. So, it’s a pleasure having anyone open for us.

What’s your favorite LA radio station and/or DJ? Why?

The Tom Leykis Show on 97.1 because a lot of people my age call in and I like to hear their opinions on life and love. Even though, I don’t agree with a single thing he says.

Who do you play your music for?

God and myself.

Do you support any local charities? If, who? If not, would you like to?

Haha, myself? Just kidding… But seriously, we are so broke. So, it’s hard to give anything but we give our churches along side my church to an AIDS foundation.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Ice cream.

What’s the best cure for a hangover?

None of us drink, so I don’t know.

What would be your perfect LA day?

Hanging out with some friends and getting some food. Then reading a good book out by the the beach or something like that.

What three things could you not live without?

My faith, my loved ones, and my skateboard.

If you could change on thing in the world, what would it be?

How people treat one another. I watch so many people get so mad at one another for no reason all the time. It really bums me out more than anything. This might sound lame and cliche but I just wish people could be more respectful, understanding, and just get along with one another.

Tell us a fact about yourself we probably don’t already know.

This band started off as a fun little side project. More or less to kill time and have fun but never anything serious. It’s crazy to look back at how laid back we took everything. Yet, the ball kept rolling.
