  • Coach charged with sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl - Kevin Lamont Thomas, 40, a high school coach and special education teacher’s assistant at Birmingham High School in Van Nuys was charged with five felony counts each of sexual penetration by a foreign object of an unconscious victim and sexual penetration by a foreign object on a child under 18, as well as one felony charge of committing a lewd act on a child and possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct. The criminal complaint says the sexual assaults occurred between July 1, 2004 and Oct. 31, 2006. Thomas faces up to 30 years in state prison if convicted.
  • Woman shot and killed in Culver City - A woman was shot and killed this morning in Culver City at about 9 a.m. in the 4100 block of Jasmine Avenue. Deputy Aura Sierra of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau said the name of the woman was being withheld pending notification of her kin. The victim died at the scene and the case is currently under investigation.
  • Two men arrested for fatal hit and run -  Police announced the arrest Thursday of two men wanted in connection with the fatal hit and run of a 9-year-old boy in East Los Angeles earlier this month. Jesus Sanchez was fatally injured about 12:05 a.m. June 1 as he tried to cross Ford Blvd at Cesar Chavez Ave with his family. The tragedy was caught on tape. On Tuesday, officers arrested the 28-year-old alleged motorist, who was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and manslaughter, and on Wednesday, Luis Olivarez, also 28, of Montebello, was booked on  suspicion of evidence tampering. Olivarez was released after posting $20,000 bail.

  •  Man shot to death in his own home - A man shot to death in a Hacienda Heights home Wednesday night, in the 1100 block of Finegrove Avenue and was reported around 9:50 p.m. The victim, whose identity has not been released, died inside the home of multiple gunshot wounds. No more information has been releases as of yet.
  • Dean arrested for hiding girls rape - Los Angeles County prosecutors say 48-year-old Alan Hubbard surrendered to police Thursday after  being accused of withholding evidence that a colleague had a sexual relationship with a student. Hubbard is being held on $120,000 bail. He has been on administrative leave from the Los Angeles Unified School District since May. Prosecutors claim Hubbard knew about an alleged relationship between a student at James A. Foshay Learning Center and former assistant principal Stephen Rooney. Rooney is accused of illegal sexual contact with three teenage girls.
