While in Los Angeles all there is nowadays are the Lakers and their NBA Finals match-up with Boston, in Europe they couldn’t care less. Actually the rest of the world right now is focused in Austria and Switzerland, the co-hosts of the 2008 edition of the Eurocup.
The Eurocup consists of 16 European soccer teams that have made it to this tournament through some arduous qualifying. Such star-filled teams like Italy, France, Portugal and Germany will battle it out to get to the final and eventually be crowned as the champions of Europe. It is basically a “mini” World Cup as some experts call it.
The best soccer in the world is being played right now. With incredible games such as France vs Italy, which is a rematch from the final in the World Cup in 2006, is hard to even blink an eye.
But in a blink of an eye all of this is forgotten in Los Angeles where basketball seems to rule the city, well at least until the Dodgers make it to the Playoffs. Very few Angelinos know or even care about the Eurocup, which is hands down the biggest event happening in the world right now.
Sorry to disappoint you basketball fans, but if you thought the whole world cared about a Kobe vs Pierce match-up or a K.G. vs Gasol duel, you are wrong. Actually, just how L.A. knows nothing about the Eurocup is the same way the rest of the world knows nothing about our NBA Finals. It is the perfect balance of the world.
But Los Angeles shouldn’t care what the rest of the world thinks. We should enjoy our NBA right now. We should get it out of our systems and when it is over we should join the rest, sit back and enjoy the most beautiful sport on Earth.
