Baby Style: ‘Heelarious’ High Heels Not So Funny

June 13th, 2008 Written by: Kendra· 3 Comments

heelariousIf you thought it was creepy that your 13 year old niece wanted Manolo Blahniks for her birthday, wait until you read this! There is a line of high heels for babies out. Yes, babies. As in, can’t walk. As in, shouldn’t be wearing anything suggesting sexuality. Am I right?

The line of shoes, called ‘Heelarious‘ is not so funny. I know they’re probably meant to be silly and fun, kind of like baby Pumas but I find this trend a little disturbing. As an aunt and as a girl who loves her heels, I find it creepy that lil’ girls are tromping around the halls of their junior highs in stilettos. Save them for prom, children. A friend recently told me about a 9-year-old who wears a full face of makeup to 3rd grade everyday, dyes her hair and straightens in with a flat iron and freaks out about wearing designer jeans to school. And we’re not talking 7’s here, we’re talking crystal encrusted Rich & Skinny jeans. Where do we draw the line?

Should my best friend’s little baby be wearing soft heels in her stroller at the mall? Yeah, we’d all laugh and think it’s cute but isn’t it planting the seed a bit early? I mean, she has plenty of years left to develop a complex and start changing herself for the benefit of men. Shouldn’t we wait until she’s at least out of the crib to brainwash her? How did we get here?

I blame Paris Hilton.

Okay, I understand, I do. It’s cute to dress babies up like us. I, too, have purchased $50 concert shirts for a baby born 40 years after the lead singer overdosed. I know it’s crazy. But, seriously, high heels? What’s next, bondage gear? Infant lip plumper? G-string diapers?

Heelarious” heels come in 6 varieties, all of them disturbing, one of them leopard print. The heels are soft so they won’t hurt your baby Lolita (physically anyway) and they are packaged in a more than precious purse-like bag. (The cutest style is ironically called “She’s a Little Lady”. They’re patent leather and pointy-toed and I hate myself for thinking they’re adorable.)

I just got a pair from MyBellySprout.com. I usually trust this store b/c they have unique, good quality stuff. I gave them to my friend who just had a baby girl, and she loved them. People need to take life a little less seriously. Everyone who sees them on the baby just laughs. They are so soft w/elastic.
