LA Wounded: Tow Truck Driver Killed, Child Abused by Mom, Teen Guilty of Rape

  • Two woman wanted for abusing child - Los Angeles police are asking for the public’s help in locating two women who are suspected of beating, starving and torturing a 5-year-old boy. The child’s mother, 24-year-old Starkeisha Brown, and her live-in friend, 19-year-old Krystle Matthewsy, allegedly inflicted “unbearable physical and psychological abuse” on the child who was hospitalized on Monday and condition remains guarded. “The boy was also forced to sit in his own urine, place his hands on a hot stove and has cigarette burns on his body.”
  • Man falls 3 stories after being electrocuted - A 30-year-old man, fell off the roof of a three-story building on the 300 block of South Wilton Place at around 11am,  after he suffered an electric shock, authorities said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.
  • A tow truck driver was killed trying to help someone on freeway - Tow truck driver, Gregory Ronald Gerbing, 41, of Perris, was hit and killed today by a vehicle, while he tried to help another driver who had rolled over on the southbound 215 freeway. At about 12:20 a.m., as Gerbing was standing in the road and a black Chevrolet Silverado truck apparently struck him. Gerbing was taken to Riverside County Medical Center, where he died. CHP officers arrested the Silverado’s driver, Oswaldo Lopez, 30, on suspicion of manslaughter and gross negligence. It is speculated that drugs and/or alcohol were not factors in the incident, but fatigue may have been.

  • Motorcycle stunt gone wrong kills off duty solider - A 20-year-old soldier, standing on the seat of his motorcycle while weaving around big-rigs died today after he crashed his bike on a Mojave Desert highway. The biker was traveling west on Highway 58 east of Boron at Kramer Junction when he crashed at about 7:50 p.m. Thursday. The San Bernardino County coroner’s office says the active duty member of the U.S. Army was standing on the seat of his Yamaha R1 motorcycle while passing trucks when he lost control. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.
  • Teenager pleads guilty to sexually assaulting 15-year-old girl - Prosecutors say a teenage boy has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor sexual battery charge involving a 15-year-old girl who was found unconscious and raped last month in a San Fernando Valley park. The 16-year-old boy is scheduled for a hearing in juvenile court on August 15. Another boy, age 15, is awaiting trial on felony rape and sodomy charges connected to the attack and is due back in court on July 8.  Police say “the victim had been drinking with friends and was found passed out in the men’s bathroom.” She was later found with two other girl who were not assaulted.
