- Tiny Ninja Theatre’s ‘Macbeth’ | Monday, June 16, 2008 | 8:00 pm | $10.00 | The Fake Gallery - Map | With our generation’s fondness for anagram-esque lingo, it’s understandable that the word of Shakespeare has been more than lost in translation. As a teenager, I’d try very hard to understand by attending outdoor theatre productions of his plays or reading from side-by-side books - all for context. As an adult, the in-thing seems to be Macbeth, performed by the Cabaret Voltaire via “tiny plastic ninjas on a briefcase-sized stage”. Why the hell not? Sounds like a blast. COMEDY
- Sarah Silverman & Friends | Monday, June 16, 2008 | 9:00 pm | $25.00 | Largo - Map | Sarah Silverman quite possibly might be the oddest personality in the world (emphasis on possibly). But one thing’s for sure: whether or not her jokes are a hit or miss, you will be laughing out of amusement or disbelief, or both. For example, here’s a quote from Ms. Silverman as host of the 2007 MTV Movie Awards:
- “In a couple of days, Paris Hilton is going to jail. The judge says that it’s going to be a no-frills thing and that is ridiculous. She is totally going to get special treatment. As a matter of fact, I heard that to make her feel more comfortable in prison, guards are going to paint the bars to look like penises. I just worry that she’s gonna break her teeth on those things.”
I observed this humorous little display of what goes on in her head (watered-down for the audience, no doubt) while on a flight to NY last autumn. White Zinfandel never looked so good on a white blouse. Say what you will, but that’s comedy. To order tickets, call (310) 855-0350.
