For all the Los Angeles fans out there that are feeling down thanks to the Lakers, I’ve got just the recipe to cheer you up. It’s called the Eurocup. It is simply the biggest sporting event in the world happening right now. Yes, it is soccer people, but probably the best soccer you’ll watch in a while.
With the basketball season practically over, you should tune in and enjoy the rest of the tournament. It is still on its early stage, but in case you’ve missed it, here’s a quick recap to keep you up to date. The group stage is almost over and the last set of games will define the quarterfinals.
To make things short….
Group A: Portugal has assured the top spot of the group. Czech Republic and Turkey will battle it out in a do-or-die game. The winner will advance, the loser goes home. Switzerland, one of the co-hosts of the tournament, has been eliminated and will play the last game of the group stage against Portugal for honor.
Group B: Croatia has guaranteed first place after their surprising victory over Germany. Speaking of which, the Germans simply need a win or tie against co-host Austria in order to qualify. On the other hand, Austria, which is curiously the homeland of our Gubernator, needs to defeat Germany to advance. Poland needs to defeat Croatia by a large score and pray that Austria beats Germany by a smaller score. An achievement that seems highly unlikely.
Group C: The Netherlands are the revelation of the tournament and have assured the top spot of the group. If Romania beat the Dutch, they’re in. France and Italy will play the most anticipated game of the tournament. The winner advances, as long as Romania loses or ties. The loser will say either arrivederci or au revoir. If Romania loses and France and Italy draw, then Italy advances due to goals scored. Get it? Got it? Good.
Group D: Spain is commanding the group and has ensured first place. Sweden needs to tie or win against the Russians to proceed. If Russia can steal a victory, then they’re in and the Swedes are out. Greece, who are the current Eurocup champions, are mathematically eliminated from the competition and will concede the championship to another country.
If this seems a little complicated, don’t worry. After the group stage is done, the quarterfinals will continue and the Eurocup will simplify. They will become elimination games, meaning win big or go home. The semi-finals and the final will follow and the champion should be crowned in no time.
But the point of the game is for you to sit back, relax, and let the tournament unfold upon your eyes. Make sure you don’t overwhelm yourself with all the information given to you. I’ll do the hard work for you. All you have to do is watch and enjoy!

I say who cares about basketball… EuroCup has had some awesome games. Get hooked on this, and in two years you’ll get equally good games via the world cup!
