CD Review: The Feelings Mutual: Self-Titled EP

June 19th, 2008 Written by: Winnie Jaing· No Comments

Feelings MutualThe Feelings Mutual’s eponymous debut EP hits stores next week, and as lead singer Jordan Clark (ex-Hot Like A Robot) says in the first track, “You ain’t seen nothin’!” Their music has been compared to the likes of The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., and even Queens of the Stone Age. Clad with heavy guitar riffs, a distinct voice, and steady drumbeats, songs like “Soul Korea” have instantly become one of my favorite songs.

Each song changes its style and the listener is met with a new approach to music each time. At first listen, I didn’t necessarily agree with the blending of vocals and music in “Monolith,” but after listening to it again, everything seemed to click. The album as a whole works as an intertwined story. Though short (the album itself is only 5 songs), each song is memorable in its own way. The repetition of certain lines embeds them in your mind, and try as you might, they’re hard to forget. The music itself balances out with the vocals, and all you hear is good music.

Clocking in at just a little over 15 minutes, The Feelings Mutual serves listeners with a pretty solid block of music. The last song in the album hints at a style similar to Brandon Boyd and Incubus - it serves as a perfect conclusion to their introduction into the music world.

Pre-Order the album now.
