It’s hot. And not a comfortable hot. Just hot. Wear your sunblock, drink your water, covet your shade and don’t do too much physical activity. On the other hand, feel free to break all the rules and join me at the Make Music Pasadena festival this Saturday to catch Kinky and the Ravonettes. Then curse me on Sunday morning when you look like a lobster with hair. If you want to stay in yet still spend money (kinda the American dream if you think about it), here are some concert on-sales to check out…
- Jack Johnson takes a break from his residency at every single summer festival this summer and brings his mellowish brand of surf rock for two local Los Angeles area shows this August. The surfer will play Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on August 29th and the rarely used UCLA Intramural Field on August 31st. Tickets are between $40-$50 with Rogue Wave and Culver City Dub Collective opening. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10am.
- In a strange-yet-kinda-makes-sense paring (like donuts and fried chicken) Maroon 5 and Counting Crows play Verizon on September 12th. Augustana opens and tickets are $30-$150 ($150? Hopefully that includes some sort of extra like on- stage seating or a free Sea Lion or something). Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10am.
- Speaking of parings that kinda make sense, ZZ Top is touring with Brooks and Dunn this summer with the local stop being August 3rd at Glen Helen Pavilion in Devore. Expect an interesting mix of fans, lots of patriotism, and temperatures well above boiling. Tickets go between $25-80 and are on sale Saturday at 10am.
- Guinness fueled punk-fiddle-rockers Flogging Molly are coming to the House of Blues- Anaheim on September 29th. If you’ve never seen Flogging Molly do yourself a favor and check this show out (and say hello to me- I’ll be the one who stands out). Tickets are $22.50 and go on sale Saturday at 10am.
- A couple of interesting solo shows are coming to Chain Reaction this August. Circa Survive frontman Anthony Green will play Chain Reaction on August 22nd and 23rd. Tickets are $12 and, following the pattern, will go on sale Saturday at 10am. Also, Get Up Kids and New Amsterdams’ lead singer Matt Pryor will join with Saves the Day lead man Chris Conley for a show on August 19th. Tickets are $11 and are on sale today.

- Tegan and Sara on October 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th at the Henry Fonda Theater. Tickets are $35 and are on sale Monday at 10am.
- Tokyo Police Club on September 18th at the Henry Fonda Theater. Tickets are $18 and are on sale Saturday at 10am.
- The Dandy Warhols on October 3rd at the Wiltern Theater. Tickets are $25 at Saturday at 10am.
- The Hush Sound on August 5th at the El Rey Theater. Tickets are $14 and go on sale Saturday at 10am.
