Saturday, June 21,
10am - 6pm
The Community Center Lawn,
at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Pier Avenue

The annual Hermosa Beach Art Walk promises a combination of arts, crafts, food, live music, and people-watching this Saturday in its new location. And what could be better; there is bound to be gorgeous weather this Saturday, making the consumption of art outside, instead of in the “white cube” of a gallery a perfectly suited change of scenery. Boasting 100 local artists, the fifth installment of the Art Walk is accommodating its growth by moving to the lawn of the Community Center at Pacific Coast Highway and Pier Avenue. The result: more art, crafts, food, and live music than ever before.

The art on view represents several mediums, from photography and original paintings, to sculpture, handmade jewelry, wood ceramic and glass crafts. Bring your wallet, as many of artists from amateur to skilled will be selling their unique and original works in the Art Walk booths. While there is a judging round and vendors, the goal of the Art Walk is ambitiously aimed at providing a platform of exhibition for local artists, and to support and propagate art education in the Hermosa Beach community.

Kelly Lynn Kimball, A Cosmic Event
June 21, 8pm - 2am
620 S. Main Street, Unit 607

Local artist Kelly Lynn Kimball has assembled a combination of her own performance panting to the dance music of DJ Koz this Saturday, descriptively entitled “A Cosmic Event.” Kimball describes this amalgamation of stimulation “an enchanted fabric-filled visual nest,” complete with dancing, drinks, and “visual treats.”

The show will highlight the mutually-influential mediums of music and expressionistic painting, and how this combination produces a spontaneous creative and perceptive experience. Kimball finds herself interested in the way in which her art springs from a specific moment and emotion, but can simultaneously be perceived and interpreted by the viewer in infinitely different ways.

Recently taking up painting on fabric in addition to canvas, her galactic themed repertoire is created in a Pollock-esque manner, on the floor with hovering paintbrushes that move with and because of the music. By producing the paintings live and spontaneously, Kimball intends to put not only her art, but also her unplanned and expressive process on view, hoping to make an experience instead of a gallery.

Kimball sites the bohemian ideals of Burning Man Crowd as being part of her inspiration, so she is not joking when she promises that “spontaneous light and fabric dancing could ignite at any moment.”
