Mamafied - The comic possibilities of exploring parenthood may seem exhausted by two-star 1980’s Arnold Schwarzenegger flicks and poorly-drawn comic strips, but let’s face it, the schadenfreude joy received by witnessing young parents overcome sleep deprivation, behavioral management, and the requisite scatological conflicts never really cease to be funny. A one-woman show, “Mamafied” will surely cover known territory, but who really cares when you know the subject matter will be engaging, endearing, and should, most of all, ring true?

I’m Just Wild About Harry - Billed as an “old-fashioned” musical comedy, expect a good dose of vaudevillian humor that could seem stuffy, but in the end, could prove a charming and refreshing theater experience. A romantic farce about a couple of guys who just want some ‘lone time with their lady friends, prepare yourself for musical hijinks that summon the days of the musicals your granny made you watch that you guiltily (and in spite of much resistance) actually enjoyed. Plus, this production is in an extended run from May.

The Last Seder - While not exactly seasonally appropriate, this comedy about a family’s eventful Passover Seder shares the problems that all families face at all times of the year. Quirky and sensitive and even containing nudity (!) this production may have some extra resonance for Jewish families, but expect everyone to enjoy the kooky proceedings.

PuppetUp! Uncensored - A first association with “Jim Henson” may be Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, but Jim Henson’s “PuppetUp!” is more like Avenue Q than Muppet Treasure Island. A bawdy exhibitionist “adult” spectable, get ready for a mesmerizing show where the actors and puppets are equally important. While it may have less of a plot than any of the aforementioned puppet-fests, a little mindless improvisational comedy never hurt anybody. Besides, the website does not even feature any of the photos of the “adult” puppets. Anybody else hoping for penis-shaped puppets?
