LA Music: Prepare Yourself for Warped Tour!

June 21st, 2008 Written by: Winnie Jaing· 2 Comments

The Action DesignVentura’s Warped Tour at Seaside Park is tomorrow! This year, the Vans Warped Tour has teamed up with EarthEcho International to implement different “Eco-initiatives.” Visit the Kia Kevin Says stage, a stage run entirely on solar power. Check out the bands signing autographs and playing acoustic sets at the Warped Eco Initiative tent. Look for Warped Eco Initiative flags throughout the venue that will mark opportunities to take action. Most of all, have fun and enjoy all the wonderful bands that will be gracing the stages and tents!

Warped Tour moves around the country with a huge list of bands playing in  almost every city for thousands of festival-goers and musicians alike. There are definitely some ups and downs to that. LA.CityZine got a chance to interview The Action Design, Protest the Hero, and Pierce the Veil regarding their likes and dislikes about Warped Tour, bands they’re excited about seeing, and tips about staying cool in the heat.

When it comes to the best parts of Warped Tour, the bands, for the most part, agreed on the friends and the food. “The best part of Warped Tour would be the great camaraderie,” says Emily Whitehurst from the Action Design. “Because of the amount of people on the tour you have to work together, and after a few days, you start to become a really big team, so it’s nice. Also, the food is excellent – which is always a plus.”

Then again, there are the worst parts of Warped Tour. Tim Miller, the guitarist of Protest the Hero, only had three words: “Heat and sun.” Vocalist/guitarist Vic Fuentes of Pierce the Veil agrees. “Warped Tour is very exhausting for everyone on the tour. By the end of the day we are all sunburned, tired, and very sore from lifting things and walking around all day.” Who wouldn’t be tired? There is hardly any shade!

Protest The HeroOne of the best parts of Warped Tour is, of course, the bands. We asked each of the three bands who they were most looking forward to seeing. “Jeffree Starr,” says Miller of Protest the Hero. Fuentes of Pierce the Veil is excited about Say Anything. Whitehurst of the Action Design expressed interest in The Bronx and Hunter Revenge (also of A.F.I. fame), but also stated that, “There are so many new bands that I am looking forward to exploring and getting into some new music.” I am going to check out a new band every day.”

Seeing all of the United States in a summer has got to have its share of stories to tell. We asked the bands what they thought of as the oddest fan they’d ever met. “Well,” said Fuentes, “This girl had me sign a roll of toilet paper today… I thought that was a bit weird.” Whitehurst has another one. “Once I had someone come up to me with a painted portrait of me on the back of their jean jacket. That was a little weird.” “One time I met some people dressed up as Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas,” says Millar. “‘Jack’ told me it was all right to make out with his girlfriend.”Pierce The Veil

And finally, how to battle the heat. We asked the bands - who have to experience Warped Tour 46 times this summer - just how they do it. “Make sure to drink tons of water. There is no shelter inside, so stay in the shade,” says Whitehurst. The other two guys thought differently. “Wear little to no clothing,” replies Millar of PTH. “Just wear skimpy scandalous clothes,” agrees Fuentes of PTV.

Catch The Action Design on the Warped Tour from June 20 – 28th and Aug 13 – 17. Pierce the Veil and Protest the Hero will be on all of Warped Tour.

hahaha It’s a traveling tour. I don’t know how else to put it. But it’s a different place for different people every day.
