LA Wounded: Hit and Run, Toddler Killed, Molestor Gets Millenia

  • Three killed in Winchester hit and run - Authorities are looking for the driver of a pick-up truck suspected in a hit-and-run collision Sunday that killed Andres Sanagustin, 48, his wife, Maribeth, 36, and their 4-year-old son, Angelo. The family was heading north on Warren Rd when their 1999 Chevrolet Malibu was struck head-on by a pick-up truck shortly after 8 p.m.. The driver of the 2007 GMC 2500 truck had crossed over the double yellow lines and struck the car. Sanagustin and his wife were pronounced dead at the scene and their son was taken to Rancho Springs Medical Center and died a short time later. Witnesses said the suspect abandoned his car and fled in another vehicle with another driver.
  • Toddler killed by drunk driver - A young girl, less than two years old, was killed and her mother, father and year-old brother seriously injured when suspected drunk driver, Jesse Rolando Astorga, 27, struck the family Sunday afternoon in Rialto. Astorga, has been charged with murder. Astorga was fleeing the scene of a nearby hit-and-run crash when he lost control of his SUV, which jumped the sidewalk and hit the victims. The girl was pronounced dead at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton less than an hour after the accident. Her parents, William Dean Dinoso, 28, and Glenda Brooks, 26, and her brother were hospitalized with broken bones and internal injuries.

  • Major accident on 405 - A multi-car crash on the 405 Freeway at the 101 connector blocked all southbound lanes of traffic earlier today. The crash that involved four cars and a private ambulance. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Seven people, including one child, were taken to three area hospitals. One man in his 50s is in critical condition. A mother and child, a 25-year-old woman and a 60-year old woman all sustained minor injuries. The ambulance attendants, two men ages 30 and 35, declined medical attention.
  • Sex offender sentenced to over a millenia in prison - Horace Mann Williams, 44, was convicted in February of 11 felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14 and one count of digital penetration of a child under 14, along with a sentence-enhancing allegation of multiple victims. He has now been charged with a 1,330-year sentence. “You guys are full of it,” said an emotional Williams who claimed his lawyer, Dario Bejarano Jr., did a poor job of representing him. The defendant claims that during a period when he was supposedly molesting one of the victims, he was in prison. He also alleged juror misconduct, stating that a potential panelist had made a prejudicial statement before being selected for his trial. “I will be filing an appeal,” an angry Williams said.
  • Another slayed cat in LA Quinta - Another dead cat was found Monday under suspicious circumstances in North La Quinta, near Washington St and Miles Ave. Since the end of May, three other cats have been found slain in La Quinta. A fourth feline was found dead inside the Bermuda Dunes Country Club on Saturday. All four of the North La Quinta cat slayings happened within a one-mile radius of one another.
