Hollywood Megamansions. The real-estate market might be in the dog’s ass for most of us, but for the mega rich who are not affected by the economic kaboom, there’s plenty of Megamansions. There are dozens of new construction sights littered around LA where 20-40-60,000 square feet, palace-like mansions are dotting the hillsides. There’s no tightening of belts for the mega rich and no down time for the lesser rich builders either. In Beverley Hills, for instance, a 32,000 square foot beaux-arts mansion, sheathed in Portuguese limestone and adorned with gold-plated doorknobs, is just one the new properties still under construction. With all this money to spend, why not build a bigger home, plate the doorknobs in gold, why don’t yah.
Some say its Hollywood ego; one must have the 80-seat home cinema and the Olympic size swimming pool, set on a little ‘ME’ island. But you know what? More power to them. After all, you can’t take it with you. So let’s take a look at who is buying what!
Ryan Phillippe’s Bachelor Pad - With fears of an ever increasing downward spiral, (do two opposites make a positive?) the property market was dashed yet again this week when heart throb actor, Ryan Phillippe, bought a home in the Hollywood Hills for $7,175,000. Yes, he may have allegedly done the dirty on Oscar winning actress, Reese Witherspoon in 2006, when rumor had it that actress, Abbie Cornish, his co-star in the movie “Stop-Loss,” and Phillippe were having a ding-dong, but now the guys needs a kick ass bachelor pad.
- Phillippe’s, new house has 5 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 8,300 square feet to spread out your new found single status. There’s a large living room and deck for all those bachelor parties and a media room with 14-foot ceilings for those off days, when being single sucks and only TV will make it better. Two master suites are provided with an office area in each. The outdoor area includes a patio with chef’s barbeque, a sauna, spa, steam room, a fire pit, and a gazebo overlooking the pool. Oh, there’s also a two-story gym to keep those muscles trim. But wait up girls, before you come knocking, Phillippe and Cornish, who denied any romantic involvement at the time, are now an item, and that’s no rumor.
Duchovny and Leoni list Malibu home at $12 million - Saying goodbye to Malibu is David Duchovny and wife actress Tea Leoni. Fears of future Malibu fires (the last one didn’t damage the home but placed it in the mandatory evacuation zone) Leoni is anxious to move back East, so the couple have listed their ocean-view home for $12 million.
- The two-story house has 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a separate gym. The property sits on 5 œ acres of land and includes membership in the La Costa Beach Club. There are 2 swimming pools and 1 is a regulation lap pool. One can only hope that they surround the house.
