Local LA: Nine Best Places in LA to Watch Fireworks

crazyfireworks08-07-03The 4th of July is a celebration of our independence to be able to oh and ah at sparkly things all we want! And not just any sparkly things, but the biggest and best sparkly things. No matter where you live in LA there is sure to be an over the top fireworks display near you. Here is a list of all the 9 best fireworks displays in and around LA with tips for the best viewing experience.

Just remember, get there early and leave plenty of time for parking! Once the sun starts going down everyone will be crowding to the beaches. So go spend a day at the beach and enjoy some good food before the crowds take over!

  • Big Bay Fireworks, San Diego: This is listed as one of the best fireworks displays around, they will have an extraordinary amount of pyrotechnics going off over the bay. The fireworks begin at 9pm, but people will start arriving by 5pm, so pack a picnic and get there early! The best places to watch are North San Diego Bay, Shelter Island and Harbor Island.
    • To accommodate the large crowd expected on San Diego Bay this Fourth of July, the Port of San Diego has set up free parking lots with shuttle service to Harbor Island and Shelter Island. The parking lots will open at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 4. Paid parking lots also are available. More info here.

  • Disneyland: These guys are the professionals. Everyday is like the 4th of July at Disneyland. They have a thing for explosions. But if you want a guaranteed view and to possibly catch a few rides this is always a good pick.
  • Big Bear: California’s fifth-largest 4th of July fireworks display happens at Big Bear Lake in the mountains above Los Angeles. Sadly, this is one of the biggest but also one of the hardest to find on the web. There is no definite start time, just some point after dark. Goo luck!
  • July 4th Fireworks Spectacular: A Ball at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Dodgers: There will be amazing fireworks displays, appearances by Dodger super stars, and music by special guest Randy Newman
  • Rose Bowl, Pasadena: Americafest at the Rose Bowl has been going on for more than 80 years. It’s an all-day 4th of July celebration, with reasonably priced tickets, a concert and fireworks display. The event takes place at Artesia Artesia Community Park 12000 block of South Street. Admission is free and the fireworks start at 9:00 p.m.
  • Marina del Rey: A favorite of Los Angeles residents, this display of go off over the ocean at some point after dark. Just wander down to the beach and all will become clear. Parking will be HORRIBLE so get their early. Enjoy some dinner and then hang out on the beach until dark. The fireworks take place at Chase Park with KXLU, 88.9 playing music and they begin at 9p.m.. All and all not a bad day.
  • Palisades Americanism Parade: Old fashioned Independence Day Parade followed by entertainment and a fireworks display. There are tons of events lined up for this one, at 1:50 pm you have Skydivers, 2:00 an awesome parade, 7 pm all sorts of entertainment, and then at 9 pm finish it off with some fireworks. The parade takes place on Sunset Blvd. in Pacific Palisades, Entertainment and fireworks located at Palisades Charter High School
  • Newport Beach Fireworks and Boat Parade: In the true spirit of the biggest and the best, Newport Beach puts on the largest fireworks display in Southern California at Newport Dunes Resort. For those of you looking for something to do during the day there’s also a fun 4th of July boat parade from 1-3pm.
  • Long Beach Sea Festival July 4th Festival: Festival activities from Belmont Pier to the Shoreline Marina with a view of the fireworks over the Queen Mary. There will be live music, BBQ and Beer Garden, boat rides, and reserved seats for fireworks viewing on the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier. Marina Green off Pine Avenue and Shoreline Drive will host the annual kiddie carnival with vendor and food booths and live music.
    • Events take place noon to 10 pm at the Pier, 10 am – 10 pm at Marina Green, and Fireworks at 9:00 pm. Carnival continues Saturday, July 5 11am - 11pm, Sunday, July 6 11am - 10 pm. For more info visit Party on the Pier or Long Beach Sea Festival.
