The Revolution ultimately prevailed on Independence Day. No, I’m not giving you a history lesson on something that occurred 232 years ago. I’m simply talking about Friday’s match between the New England Revolution and the Los Angeles Galaxy where the final score was 2-1 in favor of the Revs.
The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. was the venue of a sellout crowd who witnessed the two top teams of their respective conference battle it out in a very exciting game. Both teams were offensive and displayed a show that would make any firework display seem like child’s play.
Unfortunately for the home team, New England forward Adam Cristman came to spoil the patriotic celebrations. With two goals in the game, he not only became the most valuable player of his team, but also the game. Two deadly corner kicks in the first half was all the Revolution needed to defeat a powerful Galaxy team.
Not even David Beckham’s goal in the 66th minute was inspirational enough to overcome the two-goal deficit. The damage was done early and Los Angeles never seemed to recover.
With this victory, New England is now well ahead of the pack in the Eastern Conference with 33 points and a record of (10-4-3).
The good news for the Galaxy is that, despite the loss, they still lead the Western Conference with 21 points and a (6-6-3) record. The bad news is that only three points separate them and sixth place in a conference tighter than a sailor’s hitch knot.
Next up for the Galaxy, the “SuperClasico” against Chivas USA on Thursday night in a battle for supremacy in the conference… and the city.
