The Dodgers took 2 out of 3 this weekend from their hated rivals, the San Francisco Giants. In doing so, they are now only a half game out first place in the NL West despite the fact that they are two games below .500.
With the All-Star break coming up, that fact got me thinking: Will they stay the underachieving, boring to watch team that put them in this position? Or can they right the ship and become a team to reckon with?
Let’s take a look at each scenario individually and come up with a conclusion from there.
This Dodger team is harder to watch than “The Bill Engvall Show.” The offense is stagnant. Nobody can hit in a clutch situation. And can someone please hit a three run homerun? Oh wait, that would mean there has to be baserunners.
Matt Kemp strikes out more often than a horny teenager and Jeff Kent’s ’stache gets more respect than his bat. There is a power outage at Chavez Ravine and the DWP is busy on another call.
The season can’t be all bad, right? A half game out, with possibly being in first by the All-star break. Andre Eithier is starting to remember how to swing the bat. James Loney and Russell Martin are staying as consistent as ever. There is hope on the horizon.
That is all a losers lament, in my opinion. I understand trying to look on the bright side, but if you are a true fan and watch every game, then you understand my disgust. Beating other poor teams like the Giants and Astros shouldn’t be the cause for celebration.
Of course, there have been some tough injuries. Rafael Furcal and Brad Penny were tough losses. Juan Pierre is hurt and a few others have seen stints on the disabled list. Every team goes through injuries and the Dodgers are no different.
Some may say that I am being too harsh, and rightfully so, but they deserve the tough love. They deserve it, the fans deserve it, and my viewing pleasure deserves it.
So jump on the Dodger bandwagon and let them know when you are upset with their play. Unless you enjoying watching family sitcoms with acting skills worse than Keanu Reeves.
