With gas prices fluctuating between miserable and laughable (less “Ha ha,” more “I laugh to keep from crying), I am now looking for ways to exist without having to leave my home. The internet has become my dearest comrade, bringing everything from financial planners to now-discontinued shades of my favorite Smashbox lipstick within a fingertip’s reach. What does the real world have that the internet can’t offer? Absolutely nothing.
Here are a few sites I’ve come across that you should find useful if you’re like me and enjoy having an “in” on the latest trends and scoring goodies without surrendering your first born to the fat cats at the oil companies.
- Shop It To Me â Imagine if you had a little elf scouring major department stores and sending you a text message the minute Nordstrom puts a pair of Seven jeans in your size on sale. That’s kind of what you get with Shop It To Me. Headquartered in San Francisco, the online personal shopping site asks you to set up a profile with your size and designer preferences, then sends emails (as often as you choose) when new items in your size go on sale. Pro: High-end designers are always turning around merchandise which translates to frequent sales for consumers. Con: High-end items on sale still might be a little pricey for our budget. Ok, my budget.
- Who What Wear â I have a feeling if I met the founders of Who What Wear, Katherine Power and Hillary Kerr, we’d be the best of friends. They’re sassy, they wrote for Elle Magazine, and they know who Peaches Geldof is and what Zoe Kravitz is wearing. Their site, part fashion magazine part celebrity blog, is well designed and a great reference tool for those who follow fashion. Pro: They’ve covered all their bases with the distribution of information. You can watch mini-video segments, receive daily emails, or browse the site and shop for the same pair of peep-toe pumps you saw your favorite style idol wearing when she ducked paparazzi at Koi last night. Con: I wish their style watch included a more diverse mix of people.
- Eyes Lips Face â My roommate turned me onto Eye Lips Face, or e.l.f., about a year ago when they were selling everything on their site for a buck. Their beauty line covers the needs of everything from your lashes to your toes and whatever’s in between for reasonable prices. Exhibit A: a 9 piece set of makeup brushes goes for only $15.00. Pro: The prices are great so if a nail color or eye shadow doesn’t work, you won’t feel guilty when you find it still unused at the bottom of your makeup draw in a year. Con: Trying makeup on in the department store makes up for 60% of the pleasure in the buying experience.
If you have a site that you want to support with free publicity, please send me the link and I’ll feature it (if the site is good of course) in future Save To Favorites updates. Until then, hit the sites and go sic.
